A lot of people ask "should I watch the Madoka recap movies?" and my answer is always, you don't have to, but there are lots of little visual callbacks in Rebellion that you wouldn't know are references otherwise. Perhaps the best known one is from the opening credits, where Homura and Madoka are sitting in chairs in a field, and they end up brushing their faces affectionately up against each other, a gesture which is commonly referred by fans as "doing a Luminous" (after the name of the OP).
Thus, when Homura wakes up as a witch in Rebellion, she ends up in a nightmare version of this scene, which ends with Madoka dissolving into pink goo before Homura can catch her.
What shocked me the most about this dream-within-a-dream sequence on first watch is how jarring the transition is, especially in terms of color palette and music. We go from darkness as Homura dissolves into a witch to bright lights and relatively normality for a moment, before the surrealism kicks back in, and it's quite a ride if you're not expecting it.
The flowers here are white clover, by the way. I don't know if that's symbolically relevant at all, I just think it's neat. Even though this particular field is flat, and ringed by trees (probably on the school grounds?), there is also white clover in bloom on the hillside when Madoka and Homura have their first heart-to-heart. The soft gentle harp soundtrack is similar in both scenes, too.
White clover flowers are also briefly visible in the Rebellion OP when Homura and Madoka are running through the amusement park. I don't know if Shaft included it because it looked cool or if there's some deeper symbolic significance-- in Japan, Trifolium repens is known as shirotsumekusa (シロツメクサ) but it's a foreign plant, so IDK if it has the same cultural significance of good luck there.
Gong back to the chairs again: they also appear in the post-credits scene, this time at the flower field hill (although the flowers are gone). Just as before, Homura is on the right, leaning against Madoka, but Madoka is no longer there.
I don't think you need to know anything about the recap movies to understand these scenes from Rebellion, in the sense that their meaning is deducible from the context of the film. It's unclear if the relevant segment from the Luminous OP is even "canon" to the main story because under what circumstances and timeline would that even happen, but its inclusion in Rebellion suggests it was at least a fantasy/dream of Homura's even if it wasn't a true memory. But unlike the original series, the recap movies were made with Rebellion specifically in mind, and as a result, certain visual imagery in Rebellion is way less random than it initially appears.
Akiyuki Shinbo makes a fascinating comment in the Rebellion theatrical pamphlet about how he sees the original anime as a complete story, and Rebellion is a direct sequel to the recap movies, which I haven't been able to stop thinking about ever since. No matter how you feel about that idea, it's indisputable that the movies are an attempt to bridge the visual gap between the anime and Rebellion, and should be viewed with that in mind.
For various reasons, I prefer the original anime, but whenever I watch the recap movies, my reaction is always invariably "oh, damn it, so that's where that came from, huh".

I'm curious. Who is your favorite card artist for the tcg?
Oh, that's sooo difficult to decide! There's so many I love! I wanna do some short deep dives into the individual styles and strengths of the most common artists, but things keep getting pushed back because real life has been busy.
Two I'm expecially impressed by are sasasi and Nakano Haito, because of the range they have.
Both of them have also designed some Digimon themselves, and they often get picked to do special art rares or promotional material.
Nakano Haito has also done illustrations for Hyper Colosseum and Battle Spirits cards, and Digimon they designed include GraceNovamon, Cendrillmon, many X Antibody Digimon, and more.
Pulsemon BT7-032 Alt Art from the Digimon Con Promotion Pack [J] / Official Tournament Pack Vol. 11 [E], Galacticmon BT21-062 Special Alt Art from BT-21 Booster World Convergence, Sakuyamon EX2-024 from PB-18 Premium Heroines Set, and GraceNovamon EX5-073 Rare Pull Alt Art from BT-21 Booster World Convergence by Nakano Haito
sasasi has been doing illustrations for cards in Battle Spirits as well, and has designed some of the new Shambala Digimon, such as Kakamon and Amaterasumon among others.
Imperialdramon Dragon Mode BT3-111 from BT-02 Booster Union Impact, Mamemon BT6-064 Alt Art from BT-06 Booster Double Diamond, Piedmon Ace EX8-062 Special Rare Alt Art from EX-08 Extra Booster Chain of Liberation, and Greymon BT17-102 Alt Art from BT-17 Booster Secret Crisis by sasasi
But I guess if I have to pick one favorite, I guess it's only fair to say Kazumasa Yasukuni, as he is the only artist I am collecting all cards of in a designated binder.
(two double pages for example)
He's been illustrating cards in Battle Spirit as well, and has been a steady part of the current card game since the Beginning.
Dracomon ST1-04 from ST-1 Starter Deck Gaia Red, Brachiomon BT10-022 from BT-10 Booster Xros Encounter, and Imperialdramon: Fighter Mode BT12-031 from the Regionals 2023 (here Champion ver.) by Kazumasa Yasukuni
It's really cool seeing how he found his style and got more comfortable using wild colors! With his massive improvement, he's been picked to illustrate many Regional Tournament prize and participation cards. To me, these vibrant and dynamic cards are just among the most fun to look at.
Pulsemon P-069 Alt Art from RB-01 Reboot Booster Rising Wind [J] / Official Tournament Pack Vol. 10 [E], Kaiser Nail ST2-15 Alt Art from ST-17 Advanced Deck Set Double Typhoon, Yellow Scramble LM-029 Alt Art from ST-20 Starter Deck Protector of Light WarGreymon BT12-070 from the Regionals 2023 (here Champion ver.) by Kazumasa Yasukuni

Rando ladies.
I think I'm gonna keep this one as a reminder
I don't see anyone talking about it on tumblr yet, but forums.rpgmaker.com is going down on June 18th and being deleted entirely in December.
If YOU use any RPG Maker engines or are considering using one, YOU should let them know that we don't want decades of RPG Maker support and history taken down. Especially when the intention seems to be discouraging people from using older versions. I personally still use RPG Maker MV because privately made MZ plugins are often made with AI, and the more recent RPG Maker versions they've released are Unity plugins and not their own seperate program, and I'm not interested in Unity at all.
Let them know you want an archive here:

I know that being involved in a hobby whose primary demographic is middle class white people is going to put me at risk of being exposed to folk with noxious opinions, even more so when most official communication is through facebook which is itself a notorious cesspit of people's bad opinions. Still I find it jarring when I am subjected to open racism from people in my community. I try to block people when I can, as I truly don't believe having internet arguments is a good way of accomplishing much of anything. That said, I feel the need to convey that racism and xenophobia are not values I share, so let me say it plain.
I love migrants.
My world is better for having migrants in it.
The "West" is not nor ever has been real. But migrants? They are real and they are my friends and family and neighbours. If you disagree, then you are not my friend and you are not my ally and you do not share my values. If we as a community claim to value honour and grace, then we must stand with the most vulnerable members of our community. To do otherwise is cowardice.
