Lottieβs Chaotix Relationship Reference
The Dynamic: Trusted partners with mutual respect that compliment each otherβs opposites.
Vector and Espio bounce off of each other really well as their personalities oppose each other. Vector provides a powerful drive and energy, while Espio has patience and restraint. Neither of them work quite well without the otherβs counterbalance. Vector holds a lot of respect for Espio, trusting him enough to handle cases on his own and even appoint him as βLead Detectiveβ when things got really bad.
- Espio sometimes goes unheard or unseen as the voice of reason because of Vectorβs eagerness to take cases (i.e. Sonic Heroes)
- Vectorβs antics sometimes embarrass Espio (i.e. Sonic Generations)
- Espio is extremely loyal to Vector, he will follow Vectorβs lead even when the two of them disagree.
- When they disagree, it is purely professional. There is no underlying hatred or resentment
- Their relationship is familial and can be interpreted in more than one way
The Dynamic: An explicitly implied Father/Son relationship that is full of affection and chaos
This is a fun one. Charmy is always getting on Vectorβs nerves, and Vector is always blowing his top. Despite this, their relationship is a loving one. Vector acts as a guardian and mentor to Charmy, while Charmy tends to treat his boss like a playmate. Charmy looks up to Vector and admires him, even imitating his mannerisms and repeating his statements. Vector feels deeply responsible for the kid and would do just about anything for him. Vector admits that Charmy is a βpain in his tail,β but he still cares unconditionally.
- Vectorβs temper is quite short when it comes to Charmy, almost always resorting to shouting at him.
- Charmy, being a kid and all, is naturally rebellious. His own morals have conflicted with Vectorβs orders before, causing him to follow his sense of justice and do what he feels is right (i.e. Metal Virus Arc)
- Their relationship looks like it is difficult, but it proves to always be a relationship full of loyalty. Charmy will do what he needs to do for Vector always.
- Vectorβs fatherly role is quite apparent, as he calls Charmy (and Espio) his βboys.β
- Something that stands out (to me at least) is that Charmy is the only one in the cast who gets under Vectorβs skin. I believe it makes Vectorβs protectiveness stand out as he really does care for his kid.
The Dynamic: An implied older sibling/younger sibling relationship.
Charmy doesnβt get the same kind of entertainment out of annoying Espio as he does with Vector. Instead, their relationship is a little quieter, but still a little messy (what sibling relationship isnβt messy?) Espio is protective and patient, while Charmy admires Espio. They occasionally bring out sides of each other that donβt normally shine. Espio is the one who tends to teach Charmy new things, explaining things and situations in a way that a 6 year old can understand. Charmy thinks the whole ninja thing is extremely awesome.
- Charmy can unlock a petty side to Espio. When Charmy broke Espioβs action figure and flushed it down the toilet, Espio got uncharacteristically bitter and resentful. (i.e. Chaotix Casefiles)
- They have a sort of sibling rivalry thing that goes on sometimes. Charmy has taunted Espio before which genuinely riled him up (i.e. Sonic Racing CrossWorlds)
- Charmy is the only one who has been able to draw out such a petty side to Espio, Espio is usually composed and strongly disciplined.
- Espioβs protectiveness towards Charmy tells me that he really cares. He isnβt a guardian with responsibilities like Vector, Espio just cares that much.
- Despite Charmyβs age, Espio has shown great respect for Charmy and his bravery and smarts.
