Day 3: Trust
Mighty and Ray week @mighty-and-ray-appreciation
~~~
Mighty was exhausted.
Theyβd narrowly escaped the collapsing ruins. The moment that scared him the most was when massive stone pillars nearly crushed Ray.
Mighty tore through them all to keep his brother safe.
But adrenaline only takes a person so far. After clearing a path, his energy was spent.
He didn't remember passing out. By the time he woke up, they were miles away.
βItβs okay,β Ray says. βYou got us out.β
βWhere are we?β the armadillo asks as Ray gives him some water.
βSomewhere safe. Don't worry.β
Mighty takes a sip.
βIβm sorry I wasnβt fast enough,β Ray laments.
βWhat are you talking about?β
βI couldβve gotten us both out of there if I'd been just a little quicker. Then you wouldnβt have burned yourself out like that.β
βAre you kidding? It was my idea to explore that place to begin with. Anything that happened there is on me.β
βBut I'm supposed to have your back. You've been out of it for almost two days. If you hadn't woken upββ
βBut I did. And it sounds like you did have my back. I should've been smarter back there, but all I could think about was making sure you got out. I didn't care that much about what happened to me.β
βWell, you should. I still need you.β Ray lightly punches Mighty's arm. βThink about that the next time we run into a thousand-year-old ruin.β Ray half-jokes.
βOnly if you stop blaming yourself for everything. That never ends well, trust me.β
βAlright, fine.β Ray wraps Mighty in a hug. βJust don't scare me like that again, okay?β
βOkay. I won't.β Mighty and Ray fall back asleep like that, a perfect picture of protecting and comforting one another.
