i like a trans headcanon as much as the next guy but sometimes it really boils down to “that character has not had enough agency and/or introspective freedom in their life to have transitioned by the time we meet them in their story”

#this is why waver velvet will always be the greatest character to ever headcanon as transmasc #the first time we meet him he's only barely had the opportunity to grasp at any real sense of agency and is only just learning how to do so #but despite being a fledgling in this regard we're immediately shown that he's very opinionated and very determined #as well as very quick to take offense to heart #this absolutely establishes him as someone who would refuse to remain in the closet on his own terms #but also as someone who has very likely just begun living as himself #still looks and acts a complete fool #desperate for validation #etc #it's only when we we see him ten years later that we see how he's been able to further his transition as well as #take life by the reins and exercise the agency of the grown adult man that he is #rather than a fledgling boy asking for handouts to fly himself into the face of death completely unprepared #waver velvet
