These are social work students, and the firing came from the dean of the school of social work

The dean's letter claimed that the message was unsolicited, when in fact a student in the class had specifically reached out asking for support.

The dean's letter claimed that the statement was unauthorized, when in fact the TAs met with the professor to go over the wording of their message.

The dean's letter claimed that the message was not relevant to the course material (and was therefore not within their responsibilities as TAs). The course is titled "Women and Madness" and is specifically about how psychology treats minorities. A statement about the mental health impact of these events on minoritized students is extremely relevant to the course content.

If you have not been a graduate TA (or if the system works differently where you live), I also want to clarify that these people are adults with jobs, not teenagers volunteering or interning, and they just got fired. I don't say this to be dismissive of undergrad student workers, as I know that some of them are also supporting themselves, but I want to be clear that this is how these folks afford rent. The university has suggested that they might be moved to some other kind of position away from students, but it's not at all clear what that would be.
