I want boygenius back because Phoebe is at her best when she’s with Lucy and Julien. She’s so different I almost forgot about the beef I had with her. It’s back now tho 💀

the mods on the phoebe subreddit locking or deleting every post about him is… depressing 🫩 they literally just deleted another one a minute ago

i'm so disappointed in her still keeping marshall around even though i know i really shouldn't be surprised at this point but i'm also honestly just so pissed at her fan base and how almost no one else is talking about it

yeah the way you're thinking about it re: jb/lu's reaction to marshall does make a lot of sense. to be honest they also really bring out the best in phoebe. it's a jumpscare to go from the boygenius era back to her fully centering men. anyway hopefully julien releases some new music this year (or soon! i'm happy to wait as long as she needs!) i miss her so much!

I think your analysis of how Lucy and Julien see the Marshall situation is correct. My older sister’s husband is kind of a piece of shit (not in the same way that Marshall is though) but like… that’s my sister. And we’re very close and I love her very much. I think she made a huge mistake marrying him and I keep my distance from him as much as possible and my sister knows I’m not a big fan of him. But im not just gonna cut my sister off nor do I want to do that. I can only hope phoebe comes to her senses one day but my expectations are low as she’s made it very clear men are centered in her life, so much so that she’ll keep them around when it’s crystal clear they’re awful

i would absolutely love to know what lucy & julien actually think about her still working with marshall... like it seems pretty clear that they don't fuck with him. bg stopped playing boyfriends pretty much right after the rape allegations on reddit, right? and not to be totally parasocial but it definitely doesn't seem like something either of them would be cool with at all.

remember when everyone praised phoebe for talking about the ex grammys president who was accused of SA? 🫠 while absolutely being aware of what happened with marshall? drives me insane because does she genuinely believe in the things she says? is it cognitive dissonance? is it all just fake? how does she not feel any responsibility at all knowing the majority of her fans are young girls, and the alleged SA happened to a fan at her show

she 10000% knows about Marshall, there's no way she doesn't. I know that she was groomed by him too, and she may/likely has trauma from that (not to mention her other experiences with men like Ryan Adams and Conor Oberst). and like, I'm a therapist! I KNOW the effects of unresolved trauma, and I'm empathetic to what she's (likely) gone through at the hands of these men. But she's at a place in her life where not cutting him off is harming the people she claims to want to protect and is instead protecting an abuser and likely child rapist. The way she's chosen to handle this is hurting other people who are much more vulnerable than she is at this point, with the amount of power she has, and that's what really makes me angry

i believe everyone on punisher credited for writing was writing song lyrics but i could be wrong? i remember christian talking about writing lyrics on punisher and bocc when i saw him at a show with fenne lily a few years ago (i think he was talking about graceland too and chesapeake?) and she’s talked about writing lyrics with conor a lot

Ruby posted this on her substack a few hours ago and I couldn't agree more... I went down a rabbithole of reading her posts last night including the one that's clearly about Marshall and I just feel sick to my stomach for her and all of the other women that he has hurt. And all of this has left SUCH a bad taste in my mouth toward Phoebe... I had really been hoping she'd stop working with him after the rape allegations. Like what the actual fuck, find a new drummer, cut this guy off, and stop taking songs that he's written and releasing them. Ruby's post today: "I am of the strong belief that women who platform or work with men who have a history of abuse [without accountability or reform] are just as nefarious as their male counterparts, if not more nefarious. Feel free to make the argument that women shouldn’t be held accountable for men’s actions or whatever but there are few offenses greater to me than women who claim allyship betraying the trust of those who they claim they want to protect. Bad feminism!" (Also sorry I know I'm ranting at you-- I just don't have anyone else to talk to about this and of course the mods on the phoebebridgers subreddit shut down a post someone made about it today!)

it kinda sucks to realize phoebe has always co-written her records with the shitty men in her life. like moon song is the only song on punisher that isn’t co-written by a man. every single other song was partially written by either marshall, conor, christian or all 3 of them. there are only 4 songs on stranger in the alps that weren’t co-written with marshall. and they’re good songs! arguably some of her best! so clearly she can write on her own. why she chooses not to, i don’t know. nothing about the lyrics on lost boys needed 4 other people, let alone those people.
