You'll never get a clear consensus on the locked tomb because it's such a love it or hate it thing! The two biggest issues people have are not jiving with the writing style and not enjoying characters who aren't cut and dry good people. I love terrible, mean women, who are sad little freaks who've never learned to healthily process an emotion, so I love them! But a lot of people are looking for a hero protagonist in a series that's never going to give that.

The Locked Tomb series is really really well-written! It's one of those series that is very layered, and benefits from reading more than once (if you're into that kind of thing). It is about love, and death, and duty, and how all of those intermingle and how our relationships fundamentally change us - whether we want them to or not.
