SY roasts the hell out of him for mismanaging both the H2O setting and the interesting plot turn before it turned into normal porn, but this little bit of lore gets set aside and forgotten as PIDW!LBH goes on yet another super cool legendary artefact or sword adventure.

This does establish mermaids as a thing in PIDW however, both turned and natural-born ones. The concept is broadly transferred, but up to both SQH and the System's interpretation of what is and isn't canon lore. Things that are known from that event are as follows:

Mermaids exist. There are ways to be both born and turned into one.

Mermaids have elemental or water-based powers.

When in direct contact with water, the mermaid will show their mermaid-related attributes, such as a tail, scales, and fins.

Mermaids aren't a common sight, and knowledge of them isn't widespread among other races. Those who do know of them usually react with fear.

Mermaids can have romantic or other partners with other races, such as humans.

They might even actively seek partners for such a reason. They may seek out men for that reason.

Fast forward to (pre) SVSSS timeline and 'Shang Qinghua's dad's little... rendezvous with a mermaid during a trade deal outing, which resulted in a very pissed off mermaid lady storming up to the man and dumping a baby in his arms 9 months later, saying if he does not wish to take responsibility and join the sea flock he might as well take responsibility and raise the male spawn he helf her with. This has horrible consequences for his marriage and makes Xiang Fei a child of divorce twice in as many lifetimes. He is very much not amused by that and would like a refund from the System!

What this does mean though, is that you have young Airplane, born merman, with a crumbling family life and only vague memories of the show to guide him through his mermaid heritage. He spends his whole childhood stressing about not touching water around other people, the inevitable PIDW death the System tries to push him towards--despite the genre divergence--and learning how to cultivate on top of that, because apparently being half mermaid doesn't affect his spiritual roots.

Delphox - he got Fennekin as his starter after joining An Ding Peak. The little ball of fluff was full of energy and mischief (and its cute face was a great distraction when SQH needed to get away from situations). Braixen was left behind during the mission he met MBJ at (it was supposed to be a simple delivery mission and there was no need for pokemon to accompany them) so SQH managed to hide having a fire type starter for longer than both he and the system expected. Delphox in his later years became his hidden ace and was only really used in fight or flight situations (and on MBJ's enemy... problem solving...) as people slowly forgot about her presence

The fox also wasn't a fan of the cold of the North and preferred to stay in its pokeball while there. Delphox reveal happened during the ascension ceremony, where SQH pretended to betray MBJ and set him on fire only to attack LGJ instead. MBJ feeling all sorts of feels tried to accuse him of lying to him to which SQH replied "you never asked" before leaving

Furret - on the other hand was his day-to-day companion and the pokemon most people associated with him. The speedy weasel was great for finding scrolls and delivering messages to his Shidis and Shixiongs who were trying to avoid doing their own taxes.

Smeargle - is a nod to his writer days when he had to write thousands of words daily to be able to survive. It's also a great companion in his day-to-day work as the ADPL and Northern Desert Advisor. It is often seen taking notes in meetings and signing off on documents SQH is too busy to attend to at the moment.

Lopunny - the rant SY had after he first saw Lopunny is something that will go down in CQM history as the longest and most expletive-filled rant ever heard by the usually gentle Beast Peak Lord (that they are aware of). SQH got him because he thought it was the most PIDW-esque pokemon to have around, considering the setting, and its cute face is a great distraction before it knocks you unconscious. His son is cute and powerful so suck on that Cucumber-bro!

Glaceon - SQH got his shiny Eevee from one of the trading partners who were hoping to get a discount while trading with CQM (it hadn't worked but he still kept the Eevee). Eevee evolved into Glaceon during a Northern Castle visit when it got into the treasury and accidentally ate an Ice Stone (MBJ was very proud of the little tyke's daring and took it as a sign of compatibility with SQH, who was too busy praying for his and his pokemon's life to notice the pleased glint in his eyes). Glaceon likes to take naps with MBJ whenever he visits the Leisure House much to SQH's dismay (and jealousy. Why does his mischievous little son get to sleep next to his King while SQH has to sleep on the cold floor! Life is so unfair for this poor author)

Ditto - is it a bird? Is it a plane shooting towards the sky? No, it's a spy's favorite Ditto! Need a birds eye in the sky? A small rodent to get into secret places? A big scary pokemon to intimidate pokemon in the wild? Get a ditto!

now I choose ditto because of both his spy and traitor roles but @beyondknowingbeyondthestars thought of a funny alternative; SQH having a Magikarp that he simply keeps calling that even after it evolves into a Gyarados which would give all of his enemies (and some alies) a fright when he calls out for his poor little 'Magicarp' to wipe the floor with the enemy pokemon.

Mobei-Jun (Ice)

- Empoleon (starter, of sorts) - Chien-Pao - Beartic - Avalugg - Alolan Ninetales - Froslass

Empoleon - now, not a starter per se, but given to young Mobei to take care of and to train to take care of him. Each Mobei heir is given a Piplup when they reach a certain age. He got his Piplup after he was kidnapped by HH when his Uncle abandoned him in the human realm. Piplup had evolved into Prinplup by the time MBJ met SQH, but was kept away through LGJ's efforts. Prinplup was no more impressed by teen SQH than MBJ was, and Empoleon only came to (grudgingly) respect SQH after the succession ceremony.

Chien-Pao - MBJ as the ruler of the Northern Desert is granted the favor of a mythical beast if he can prove his worthiness by fighting it. And that's the story of how MBJ got adopted as Chien-Pao's cub. It is seen as a great honor and a good luck charm for his reign as monarch, and helps earn the respect of elders and LGJ's followers, who were more partial to his Uncle before he bonded with it.

Beartic - Real-life polar bears are horrifying enough, seeing MBJ's Beartic in person made SQH scared him so much that if he had a single stray thought (after long weeks of writing treaties, and doing inventory checks, and fending off assassins after the King's 'pet') of ever betraying MBJ he sure gave up those plans now! 8 feet tall, and with breath as cold as the Northern Desert itself, Beartic is a terrifying beast of nature. This only serves to make MBJ smile as he remembers the teary-eyed Cubchoo it was when he first took it in.

Avalugg - this terrifying piece of ice likes to spend its free time imitating glaciers and ice chunks before surprise attacking its prey. Both MBJ and Avalugg have a great time during these play fights as they both know they can go all out without the other predator finishing them off.

Ninetales - MBJ got a shiny (Alolan) Vulpix as a gift from his uncle back before the betrayals started. It was more of a pet, maybe even one that was more decorative than functional (protective) in nature, but a pretty little royal gift. She remains one of his most treasured possessions and is one of the main reasons why he can't bring himself to kill his uncle. Ninetales now is not nearly as fond of LGJ as she was as a kit and is slow to trust anyone who tries to get close to MBJ. It has weekly territorial stare-offs with SQH's Glaceon over who gets to nap close to MBJ and enjoy the cold he emits. It is quite comical to see, especially because Glaceon is usually the winner 7/10 times.

Froslass - MBJ met her in the Silver-lined MoonStone Ice Plains, where she had amassed a very respectable collection of demon-minion-and-smaller-beasts ice decorations. He was called to deal with the malicious pokemon who kept terrorizing the Ice Plains and gained an interior decorator instead. Shang Qinghua thinks she hates him and does his best to stay as far away from her as possible. She is actually quite fond of him and wants to add him to her collection of frozen trinkets. MBJ finds it too funny to ever clear up that misconception.

okay, now, I know I said Peak type and type teams in general but I am letting SY live out his beast peak dreams and just collect whatever he likes or thinks is cool (tho I did notice a lot of them are a fairy adjacent actually)

Is he a transmigrator in this? Yes, tho a self-insert of sorts bc related to SJ. He and SQH both got transmigrated into a Pokemon au/fanfic of PIDW

gonna have Charmander as his starter bc well, it's SY, and he gets to end up with a dragon, which I feel like his monster-loving self would love. Also flying pokemon allows him to travel easily all over the place to find other cool pokemon

Rotom - the System self insert! He woke up after getting shocked by a wild Rotom, which turned out to be a Rotom/System fusion (the System tried to bond to SQH the same way, but I fear he simply does not vibe with electric types). It's usually just a normal Rotom that can connect to the System when necessary to give out missions and such

Meganium - grass type partiality bc of his brother is what he tells people, but in reality he simply ran into a Bayleef one day while exploring and it followed him home after he fed it some candies and organic pokefood. In Meganium's mind it is a lapdog and it rivals LBH with how sticky it is

Gardevoir - saved a Ralts from poachers who were doing illegal pokemon trade and nursed it back to health after which it decided to stick with him as well. Was quite shy as a Ralts and Kirlia but grew confidence after evolving into Gardevoir to protect SY during a fight.

Sylveon - got an Eevee from SQH because what else are two pokemon nerds gonna do but get Eevees and see what it evolves into? Sylveon is a spoiled little princess and knows it. It has, to SQH's great dismay, taken after its trainer and helps SY bully SQH about his writing.

Rockruff - his name is Bingpup (yes he named it after og!LBH. yes svsss!LBH is jelly of it). It evolves into Lycanroc after LBH falls into the Abyss. Midday form - thought about the other two forms but I think it staying the same as LBH changes and then wishes he stayed his pre-demon seal self would be a nice narrative choice (System gives him points for that, SY is not amused)

Shen Jiu (Grass/Dark)

- Serperior (starter) - Leavanny - Roserade - Leafeon - Meowscarada - Absol

Serperior is his starter which was given to him by the previous QJP peak lord as a Snivy. The other Head Disciples (later Peak Lords) did make comments about it with time ("Snake for a snake, figures."), but he never stopped loving the pokemon as the first and most valuable gift his Shizun gave him

Other disciples tried to argue he was too old to get to choose a starter that would grow as he did, as is the QCM tradition, and it was indeed out of the breeding season that disciples usually get pokemon from (after the trials) so the QJPL gave him a pokemon that hatched from their own starter

Leavanny - he found a Sewaddle munching on the bamboo leaves on QJP and wanted to get rid of it, but the little guy was entranced by the bamboo embroidery on SJ's robes and simply would not leave him alone (the Shen curse strikes again). After evolving it helps SJ make his famous embroidery works he is known for as the QJPL. It is very fond of his disciples and is known to sometimes nab a robe or two and put bamboo motives on it like the ones SJ had while he was a disciple himself

Roserade - he got Budew from the Warm Red Pavilion ladies during his times as a disciple. One of the ladies there kept them as a hobby and decided to gift him a Budew before her contract was bought by a man who lived out of town. He decided to keep it at the WRP until it evolved into a Roselia to keep it safe from his sect siblings, who like him weren't too above underhanded tactics to keep in the lead for being Head Disciple.

Leafeon - gifted to him as an Eevee by SQH from the same batch as SY's Eevee. SJ thinks it was SQH's attempt to make himself look less suspicious (not untrue) while presenting it as a thing to help the siblings bond and keep in touch. Its Leaf Blade attack is often used the same way (and at the same time) as SJ's Plucked Leaves Flying Flowers as their signature duo move

Meowscarada - the sheer level of judging you that SJ and Meowscarada give off while looking at you behind twin fans is unmatched. SY gifted him a Floragato he rescued from a mission dealing with poachers. Florgato and SJ did not get along at all at first. Florgatto was too distrustful of humans and SJ saw too much of himself in the little cat hissing at him whenever he got too close to it. It was a long journey of learning to trust one another that led them from barely existing trust to what they have today

Absol - "everywhere an Absol goes, disaster follows" is a saying well-known and spread by the general populace of the PIDW au setting. And has there ever been a bigger disaster in the making than the end of the world fated to happen because of one bitter, bitter man? If getting close with Florgatto was SJ's path to getting honest with himself, bonding with Absol was SJ's path to accepting life can get better despite everything it throws at you.

The sheer negativity surrounding SJ's life has made Absol a silent shadow appearing from time to time ever since SJ was a child. He had come to know that seeing the pokemon means his life is about to get worse. From the Qius to Wu Yanzi to meeting YQY once again, Absol was there to see it all happen. You can guess such a thing hadn't made him all that fond of the pokemon no matter the healing items it tried to bring him, and little warnings it kept trying to signal during night hunts and close fights. Over time (and a lot of SY's influence about Absol simply being a pokemon and not SJ's personal heart demon!) he slowly grew to appreciate her looking out for him and let her stay closer and closer until she became a member of his team

(you can imagine how literally everyone reacted to that. If the pkmn au happend w/o SY and XF being there Absol 100% would have been used as evidence of him being evil during the PIDW trial)
