I love the man, but too fucking late.

Cynicism is one of the exact reasons this shit keeps happening. People deciding it’s too late, they can’t do anything to change anything, everything’s set. Too cynical to get active, too cynical to vote, too cynical to even fucking try. That’s why this shit happens. Because, quite frankly, people just don’t care enough. Vote in the goddamn primaries so we can get a candidate that isn’t chosen by 10% of the fucking population. Vote downticket, vote for people who align close to your beliefs, vote. And don’t just vote, actively voice your opinions. The more people who use their voice, the stronger it becomes. Stop being so goddamn cynical and stop giving up. The young and liberal population is way too convinced that their voice doesn’t matter, that their vote doesn’t matter, that they don’t matter. It’s a bunch of fucking bullshit, because you do matter. What you believe does matter. Nothing happens when you don’t actively try. Put pressure on the damned politicians so they can’t just keep doing what they want. Not caring, not using your voice just gives them more freedom to ignore people’s rights and will.

I wonder from where so many Americans get the idea that voting is supposed to be some expression of your deepest, most beloved values and virtues rather than a pragmatic, political move meant to shift your country as much closer to your ideal as possible. This strikes me as another example of extreme individualism. Voting isn’t about *you*. It’s about your city, state, and/or country. It doesn’t have to feel transcendently good deep down in your bones. It just has to *do* as much good as you can do, in this particular moment in time.
