I feel so bad for people who live in primarily protestant countries. You get christian bigotry and on top of all that it's not even aesthetic.
Tbh I think it'd be more accurate to just say "I feel bad for american protestant countries" since those in europe at least have a bunch of old catholic churches around.
really dislike the very common way people express political opinions in a very humourous, non commital tone, so that they're both boasting their political position whilst having a good way to avoid taking responsibility for it ("I'm not serious!")
I swear, some of you people somehow manage to possess all of the three most unfortunate character traits someone can have: a) kinda stupid, b) obnoxiously contrarian, c) deeply annoying.
stuff you say when you don’t give a fuck about women quite frankly
Hence the not-uncommon adage that the washing machine did even more for women's liberation than the birth control pill

apropos to your not all men post, should an activist be comfortable saying "not all white people?" if so, then why is it not okay to use the not all men slogan? is it true, or is it just shorthand?
I think overall you're better off using specific language about what exactly you're complaining about instead of just approximating it based on their demographic.
For example, I have a lot of posts here where I criticize about white nationalists, racists, xenophobes, and etc. Typically in the context of immigration.
Notice how I don't just say "white people" when I mean "people with racist immigration policies" or the like? There's people of color with racist immigration policies (hi grandma), and there's white people who sincerely want open borders and moral universalism.
Same thing with gender. I criticize sexism and gender essentialism rather than one gender in particular because people of all genders can do sexism (hi mom) and people of all genders can oppose it.
I think this helps make communication more precise and focuses on what the actual problem is.
I am constantly thinking about this
This mild Wikipedia sentence is like the understatement of all time
Here are some crazy grasshopper mouse facts for those who are not familiar with the most badass mouse species on the planet
- They are primarily carnivorous, and their diet is made up of not only bugs but also snakes, lizards and other mice.
- They hunt like true predators, slowly stalking and creeping up on their prey before ambushing them. They will sometimes let out a screech as they attack.
- Like wolves, they howl to establish territory and have a specially developed throat to produce louder vocalizations. They will stand up on their hind legs and throw their head back to howl- a sound that can be heard from 100 meters away!
- Grasshopper mouse behavior is linked to lunar cycles and they are more active during a full moon.
- These mice have been hunting bark scorpions and evolving alongside them for so long that they’ve evolved a mutation where scorpion venom that is lethal to other animals is converted into a painkiller in the grasshopper mouse’s body.

remember the like tiny sliver of time when there was a real push to just say "people who have a uterus" or "people with testicles" or whatever when that was what you meant, and then faux-progressives who were willing to cave to terfism to avoid saying icky anatomy words ruined it with "AFAB-bodied"
literally just say dick when you mean dick. feeling uncomfortable with body parts and getting all euphemistic about it is conservatism by default.
What about accounting for ambiguous intersex genitalia? You're implying that the body is constructed before language.
How is using the name of specific body parts worse at accounting for intersex folks than referring to coercive assignment at birth? Like, of course it's not perfect, but using terms like "AFAB-bodied" is infinitely worse and reinforces the binary in which intersex people are forced at birth.
Well the original term was AFAB, an acronym meaning "assigned female at birth." The idea behind assignment is that someone uses their judgement to rule out anything else this person is and tells them they're "female," which reflects the process of that happening in real life. Using the word "dick" or "pussy" does not reference this process, so it implies that it hold the same elemental weight as "hydrogen" or "gravity."
Yes, but I don't see any reason why referring back to this assignment helps in any way to account for intersex genitalia. You can absolutely use words that don't refer back to coercive assignment at birth, and can potentially be more accurate, without implying that it has no effect on intersex people.
Designating body parts without reference to coercive assignment at birth isn't the same as saying that coercive assignment at birth has no weight. It just avoids terms that legitimize this process as something that reflects objective reality.
It's the reason we're talking about this. It generates discourse about the subjective nature of judgement being applied to people in quid pro quo relationships. It's a reminder that the work to change our society to reflect a culture that accepts all people is not done and it serves as a basis that negates the tendencies that arise from first act in this process which is observation. We need to free our minds, become educated, and change what is manifested. It's the process of mastery: mimic, mutate, then synthesize.
To go back to the original point, I genuinely don't think calling genitals "AMAB body parts" or "AFAB body parts" is helpful as a reminder of work to be done in any way – if anything, it only reinforces the existing binary framework, and makes it much harder for liberation movements to break it.
Yeah, so emancipating the term from implications that positivism supports the construction of these body parts helps us understand that the discretion of the person that has to live subjected to powers beyond their ownership needs to be unified with their peers. Hence, "assigned x by y" helps us once people more widely understand that interdependency is at play, "assigned x at birth" helps us now, and "dicks" is unhelpful.
Hence, "assigned x by y" helps us once people more widely understand that interdependency is at play, "assigned x at birth" helps us now, and "dicks" is unhelpful.
It might be helpful to discuss the effects that assignment at birth has on social construction, but that's not the topic? We're referring to literal body parts, and, when the topic of a conversation concerns people with dicks, then saying "dicks" is accurate, while saying "assigned male at birth parts" needlessly excludes post-op transmascs from the conversation.
I understand that you're discussing the social construction of how these body parts are defined, but that is a completely different conversation, and you're talking over the actual issue (erasure of trans people when discussing issues that affect specific body parts).
That's where you're mistaken. There are "literal body parts" being erased from all scientific literature when you use these terms. Biologists don't say dicks. Serious biologists understand sex as a spectrum of genetic expression that varies globally. What you know about genitals is a lie. Did you know that there are populations of people on Earth where it is not only normal but frequent that people born with "vaginas" go through puberty only for that "vagina" to turn into a "penis"? You're embedding racism and imperialism into your argument when you try to say this isn't a discussion about social construction. The only way you're right is through genocide and the medical stigmatization of societies alien to you.
Accusing someone of being a genocidal racist just for disagreeing with you on semantics is not very helpful.
And again, in the case of the guevedoce (which I presume are the people you are talking about), calling what they have "AFAB genitals" would be even less helpful, and make it harder for them to talk about their situation. Same for everyone else on the intersex spectrum.
I genuinely don't see how you can both acknowledge that sex is a spectrum, and, instead of wanting more descriptive terms to cover the diversity of human variations, decide that we should revert back to grouping them as "AFAB genitals" and "AMAB genitals", and that anything else is genocide and medical stigmatization.

The thing about being religious is you'll talk about your beliefs and/or experiences with non-religious people, and they'll sort of pat you on the head and say, "Yes, what a nice little idea, I'm glad that you have your beliefs to comfort you!" and every time you have to bite your tongue because your religion isn't just a "nice little idea" to you, it's a cosmic truth that underlies all things, and furthermore, although God Himself has comforted you, that doesn't mean that faith itself is comfortable, but if you put any of that into words, they'll look at you funny.
This is a classic moment where the solution is to match their energy, then exceed it.
"Tell me, when you are lonely and beset with self-recrimination in the dark, who listens to your screams to be understood other than you?
If you're going to be smug and have a totally undeserved sense of superiority to me over the fact that I am religious and you are not, I'm going to cause you psychic damage.
You truly believe you're better than me because you sit obtusely and unfeeling to the great consciousness that surrounds us? And you expect me to believe that is because there is something wrong with me, rather than something that is deeply wrong with you?
No. If you believe in a cold, unfeeling universe with no awareness or concern for your existence, then sit in it. Be more insensate than the basest of all animals. You chose the rules for this time out and you can hang by them. I'm going to be over here kiki-ing with God because he tells excellent jokes. You can join us when you're ready to become more fully awake and alive to the grand design taking place around you."
This is a deep failure of, I think, empathy and even relatively simple theory-of-mind. You don't understand the people you're trying to "psychically damage" well enough to actually do damage.
>>they'll look at you funny.
serious consideration by nature means you're inviting people to say "no" to you. they will take you at your implied word that you will value their honest thoughts. when you treat the "no, thanks"--that you personally solicited--as hostile, that does not scream "i am happy". that screams "convert or die". people will look at you "funny" when you act like that.
you are literally claiming to know secrets of the universe alongside a lack of self awareness in how you present yourself to and treat other people. can't analyze the unknown if you won't clearly see your own actions.
Why are we still using colonizer names for countries when the Indigenous names always sound so much cooler (e.g. Aotearoa & Turtle Island).
Imagine non-Brazilians trying to pronounce Pindorama, it'd be so funny.
Do it for the lols, if nothing else.
Aotearoa is also a colonizer name. The Maori were colonizers who ate the people they colonized.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO only European people from the Colonial Period* count as Colonizers!!!!
Any other definition makes the entire slur fall apart!
We worked really hard on that slur, now you leave it alone!
The Māori were the first settlers of New Zealand. According to the Wikipedia page, the claim that the Māori invaded an already-settled land is a conspiracy theory used "to undermine Māori status as first settlers":
Today, speculation about pre-Māori settlers may include conspiracy theories opposing academic research. Some public figures have used these theories to undermine Māori status as first settlers. ... Modern New Zealand archaeology has clarified the origin and dates of the earliest migrations, establishing firmly that there is no evidence that anyone settled New Zealand before Māori.
And you're not going to shock me with the fact that they committed cannibalism of defeated enemies because several cultures in Brazil did the same thing in the past. It wasn't mindless, it was part of their religion. Much like how Catholics supposedly literally eat the flesh and blood of Christ every week except that Indigenous people put their money where their mouth is, unlike Catholics.
Provide an example. I'm begging you. Put a fucking example in your presentation. No one knows what the hell you're talking about can you please include one teeny tiny itty bitty example please please please we're starving here.
i feel like treating sexual violence as infinitely worse and more unspeakable and than any and all other types of violence is probably not good for peoples lives or brains
i think one of the places this is clearest is whenever u see one of those stupid replies thats like "yeah i dont believe in the death penalty. EXCEPT we should kill all rapists and pedos" cuz they never include, like, nazis or doctors that abuse disabled people or anything. like rape is more evil than a guy beating his wife to death due to some nebulous Sin Value. obviously i think the death penalty shouldnt be a thing whatsoever i just think its indicative of.....Something in peoples brains that a sexual abuser is a type of demon that has to be put down like a dog "even though i DONT believe in carceral punishment" but, like, klansmen or serial killers or anything else are somehow nowhere near the same level. its basically an "i can excuse racism but i draw the line at animal cruelty". like what if all bad shit was just bad shit and we didnt pretend that certain types of abject violence and cruelty were Of The Devil.
speaking from the perspective of a survivor who's had these conversations with people who had no idea that i've been raped (i don't tend to advertise it since it's like. a bit traumatising lol), i think this mentality of rape being the Ultimate Evil also does significant harm to survivors. let me explain.
once, in class, the topic of conversation between some of my classmates and my teachers shifted to rape and other forms of violence, in this case murder. it wasn't out of nowhere, we deal with that sort of stuff, so i was expecting it. what i wasn't expecting was for one of my classmates to say something along the lines of: 'i think if it were up to me, i'd rather be murdered than raped. i'd choose death.'
the train of thought there is obviously along the same lines. Rape is worse than Murder. many people would rather be Murdered than Raped.
so i cut in. 'i don't have to imagine,' i said. 'i already made that choice. and i'm still here.'
everyone fell deathly silent. classmates and teacher alike stared at me, suddenly uncomfortable. maybe it was because i pulled the situation out of hypotheticals, reminded them of the uncomfortable fact that violence, sexual violence, happens to real people, and isn't just a report to be evaluated.
or maybe it was because they realised that the classmate had just implied that, according to them, i'd be better off dead. because that's what it tells me. rape is the Ultimate Sin, unforgivable and nothing to come back from. okay. what does that tell you about rape victims? are we therefore tainted irreversibly? once a rapist, always a rapist, and once raped, always raped. you become a statistic, a living Ugly Reminder. wouldn't you be better off dead? how could you ever heal from being Abused By The Devil? after all, it's worse than murder, and you can't come back from that at all!
let me be clear. nobody should be able to get the death penalty. i'm honestly anti-incarceration as the system stands right now, if not in its entirety. but when people say rapists are worse than murderers, they tell me that rape is worse than murder. they tell me that being raped is worse than being murdered. and by saying that, they tell me survivors are better off dead than healed. and i don't think that's good for anyone, especially not survivors.
so can people please, please stop saying 'i don't believe in the death penalty, except for pedos/rapists'. you're not helping.
started the apothecary diaries and i think this is my favourite scene so far. do not fuck with maomao

You're fucking kidding me
"Our apologies for suggesting that genocide should not happen to other people, please accept our apologies as we continue murdering Palestinians"
I hate that like when arguing with christians about how they think that homosexuality is a sin because of the bible its a faux pas to be like ok well that's not real
I do not care about someone's personal creation mythology but when we are talking about like actual legislation that decides equal rights it is like ok you cannot just say source: religious document. why is that even allowed or taken seriously
ok well that's not real
Still spinning about "I don't care if what they said was bigoted"- how's that sound? "Ok, I'll accept that your god is real and personally told you I am a subhuman." How is that working out for anyone as a rebuttal to bigotry?
On the line of finding good debate tactics, I've found it's really ineffective to blindly accept people's bullshit premise. You probably aren't going to convince them if you tell them their premise is bullshit, but you're probably also not going to convince them by engaging in their fiction debate group either. They know their bullshit better than you, and they want to lecture you about it. What you actually end up doing is allowing them to scooch the baseline of what's admissible as fact away from evidenced reality and into nonsense.
On the line of just hearing that shit without letting yourself stand up as, at least, someone with an equal view on reality to push... it's terrible for your mental. You don't need to sit there while someone proselytizes you or fills the air with their bigoted bile and stay mum. There's something far more poignant than walking away and ceding your space or tacitly accepting their bigotry is based on anything factual. Bring the issue back to the truth. "That's not real."
The kids who were raised as if it were proven fact hear you. The teens in the closet hear you. You hear you.
It's kind of sweet how "it's incredibly rude" is on there twice like. so what. when i call someone a racist bastard because he wants to do mass deportations, that is also rude, or at least i hope it is. Politeness is a peace agreement and not some fundemantal moral imperative; if some christian is going on about how god says gay sex is a sin or whatever, then they are being rude and it's fine to respond in kind.
