imo engaging critically with texts and scholars is not something you should just do when you disagree, but also when you agree. it can be enriching to identify the limitations of an author or activist that you largely agree with because it can give you broader perspective and opportunity for introspection. also, to put it bluntly, everyone says stupid shit at one time or another, so you shouldn't uncritically accept everything someone says to you.
