i'm sorry i never did your tag game. i love you
Can you please just have an ounce of shrimpathy?
like many people have said this better than me but no it IS odd that we've come to think of potatoes as so quintessentially european that their presence in historical fantasy where they're anachronistic doesn't jar. and yes people are trying to have the trappings of post-colonial europe without engaging w the icky colonialism part and yes people are neglecting to imagine what a european cuisine without potatoes would be like.
im fully in favour of 'let people have fun w their fantasy world' but is considering how the potatoes got there in the absence of colonialism not a fun exercise? maybe every year the dragon riders go on a great transatlantic potato pilgrimage
perhaps a good way to sum up the issue here is:
if you put potatoes in your medieval european style fantasy world people will by and large not find it jarring and accept it as a normal fantasy trope
if you put, say, black people in your medieval european style fantasy world a whole demographic of people will get very angry and accuse you of breaking their immersion
this is in spite of the fact that black people were a lot more common in medieval europe than potatoes.

australian sour patch kids have gluten in them i am truly at my fucking limit im crashing out im waging war against wheat idgaf anymore
oh is that one of those things where ableist companies put in traces of common allergens so they can just avoid the cost of making it safe
WHAT
A trend we predicted in 2016 continues.
US based but it’s similar reasons in other countries. and of course many companies have international locations. idk if that’s why it’s happening with sour patch kids but this is a thing
I cannot even explain how ANGRY I am at this.
My nephew is very allergic to eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame. Last year my sister discovered all hot dogs and hamburger buns now contain sesame. Not "may contain", but listed in the ingredients. This year basically every brand of sliced bread also now contains sesame, making it very difficult to find bread items he can eat.
They're just adding it to their products, so they can just list it as an ingredient and not bother with worrying about cross contamination. And they aren't even bothering with telling anyone. Capitalism is going to kill us all.
"Which brings us back to Kellogg’s. Back in 2016, the company found a way around the added burden and expense of complying with the FSMA: they simply began adding trace amounts of peanut flour to their cracker products. Doing so allowed them to list peanuts as an ingredient of the product, freeing them from having to prevent cross-contact.
At the time, Kellogg’s notified Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) about the impending change and left it to them to warn the allergic community. In this case, Pearson’s didn’t even bother as near as we can tell."
a quote from the above article. i feel like people without food restrictions and allergies don't truly understand the life those of us with them do. this is our reality. this is for every ingredient you ever buy. you have to check the ingredients on every grocery every time. you still run the risk of it going home and making you sick. people with allergies and food restrictions have to deal with so much all the time. can you imagine if you could only consistently have a handful of foods that were 'safe' but every time you go to the grocery store (for the rest of your life) there's the chance you will have less and less options to eat?
im sorry but when you grow up and interact with people irl youre gonna have friends where you dont fw their tastes. sometimes youre gonna meet someone chill whos also a hazbin hotel fan or have a really nice coworker that likes taylor swift and youre gonna need to mind your business and shut the fuck up or youre gonna be real lonely
i really don’t have the time to be the way i am

i really do not think it can be overstated how much hatred against trans men on this site is driven by people finding trans men Just Kind Of Annoying. people have pipelined themselves into posting on the daily about how tmes should be raped to death because 6 years ago a teenage trans boy was somewhat overexuberant on a fandom post, and other such minor irritations. finding someone (and therefore their entire segment of the population) Just Kind Of Annoying is a direct line, especially on the internet, to completely unpersoning them. nothing one of those people ever says or does should be taken seriously, even if it's a matter of life and death. because they were kind of annoying :/
hang on yeah i want to talk more about this ^ specifically. been seeing people here discuss the phenomenon of the fascist "right to comfort" mostly in terms of people not wanting to have uncomfortable conversations or not wanting to be exposed to topics that are harmless but make them feel weird. and cringe culture is very much an extension of that perceived right to comfort. if you cannot extend your tolerance to someone who is really fucking annoying, not to be best friends with them or anything, but just to protect their basic rights and dignity, you lack principles. point blank. you need to build a bulwark of values that prioritize autonomy and dignity for everyone and it needs to be strong enough to weather the most irritating person you know, or else you will also inevitably become a fascist or part of the fascists' body count.
