Terry Pratchett: *Creates a pair of old witches, one of whom is a virgin and the other who has slept with lots of men.* *makes them best friends, never dismisses one lifestyle of the other, explains lifestyle choices based on characters history and personality, uses this to develop each character as the books progress*

Terry Pratchett: *Writes Sybil Rankin* *makes the powerful rich lady heavy set but beautiful, never plays her by her looks, develops her as she ages, acknowledges the way society views such people and then spits on their attitudes* *does it again with Agnes*

Terry Pratchett: *Writes a book about an entire army secretly being women, creates complex female relationships, introduces same sex relationships completely naturally*

Terry Pratchett: *takes old joke about female dwarves and uses it to explore gender identity without making it seem forced or unnatural, carefully discusses some of the issues and complextities whilst still making funny and witty observasions and maintaining genuine fantasy tropes*

As much as I want to smack the main characters sometimes, I also greatly respect them.

Even the ones I hated at the beginning books, I have actually come to like. Terry’s writing is just that good.

I’m an older millennial who grew up with the good beginnings of the Anita Blake series, Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time, always rented out Madeleine L'Engle and Ursula LeGuin’s stuff, etc.

I remember getting in trouble because I spilled some Sunkist on a checked out copy of Diane Duane’s paperback “So You Want To Be A Wizard”, and my conservative Christian mom getting mad at me reading the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman because she thought it was written by the devil.

(Also @dduane I was amazed to discover how active you were on tumblr. You greatly shaped my childhood as a budding feminist and queer woman and I’m so grateful for you).

I did book reports on Robin McKinley’s “Hero and the Crown” and “The Blue Sword” in middle school.

I actually painted a full poster of Aerin from “Hero and the Crown” for my book report. Considering I eventually became a fine arts major in college, I think I put a lot of effort into it.

I was gifted a Siamese cat soon after that I named Jean-Claude.

Sadly, he died at 7 in a freak accident, but holy shit at least I never ever had to answer questions about why I named him after the porno vampire lmao

I think I gave up the ghost when “Micah” came out, I actually got paper clips and separated the sex scenes in that book from the plot and it was like 70% gratuitous sex scenes ugh I logicked myself into giving up on an author haha

Also I lost interest when she kept adding new dudes to the “triumvirates” 🙄 instead of developing existing partners, so you never get invested in any guy she’s sleeping with.

Also she kept adding weirdly young, “feminine and long haired and submissive” men and it got to the point where I was convinced the author was actually a closeted boomer writing out her lesbian dominatrix dreams to make herself happy instead of a fantasy author.

And the “men” kept getting younger or more childlike than Anita and I was just 🤮

Like, hell woman, I’m not straight myself but you clearly have some issues you need to work through instead of writing about it.

Most of us write anonymous smut fanfic instead of whatever the fuck THIS is.

Don’t get me wrong, I love smut fanfic but those are one-shots. Any series in fanfic rated explicit I’ve ever read and enjoyed was at least 80% plot.

Also I lost interest in the author with her stupid nazi stance on fanfic during the 90s/early 2000s.

She’d literally go after anyone who dared to write anything about her characters, and ff.net even had a warning about her for authors so they’d know what they were risking.

This is spam. It’s against TOS and it throws trending completely out of whack, along with being wildly annoying.

But here it is in the Terms of Service. It's been there long before this shit started happening.

Intentionally tagging incorrect tags is abusing the tag system and therefore against the TOS. The posts that tag shit like images of cigarettes as celebrity names.

That's what the TOS is trying to avoid. Within good reason. OP is right; the longer this is condoned, the more people will join in, the more prevalent this gets, and the less relevant tags will become. Tags will be as relevant here as they are on Instagram or TikTok and shit.

That and it's just fucking annoying and disrespectful to other people's time, all for the sake of scrambling for popularity online whatsoever, let alone Tumblr out of all sites.

Instead of tagging “noncon is gross” or “not noncon because that’s problematic”, for example, just put “enthusiastic consent” or “consensual sex” in the tags. It makes things a whole lot easier for people to filter and know what’s going on.
