We got this prompt forever ago on @angstflayer-council and I decided to finally do something about it
Eddie can’t sleep. That happens a lot lately, usually due to nightmares about hell dimensions and demon bats, but tonight there’s a melody stuck in his head. It’s the melody he’s been looking for on the new song he’s been writing. It plays on loop in his head, making him giddy as it all slots itself into place.
It gets to the point where he’s itching to write it out on paper and to figure it out on the guitar. He opens his eyes, smiling as he finds Steve sound asleep, hair flopping down on his face as well as sticking up in 100 different directions.
He giggles softly to himself, leaning forward to kiss Steve’s forehead before quietly slipping out of bed to grab his notebook and guitar. Steve makes a noise as soon as Eddie moves away from him, which almost makes him want to stay and cuddle his boyfriend until he falls back to sleep, but he needs to write this song.
Eddie stays as quiet as he can so Steve doesn’t wake up, slipping on a pair of sweats and grabbing everything he needs and heading to the front room to work.
He quietly strums his guitar, playing the melody over and over again until he can get it just right, writing down the chords as he goes and humming along, not quite focused on adding lyrics yet. He works quickly, the song flowing out of him as ideas continue to feel his head which makes him excited about what the end result will be.
About 20-30 minutes later, he hears movement in the hallway which makes him look up, finding Steve in all of his bed head glory with his arms folded in front of him and squinting, clearly having just woken up. Eddie smiles softly at him, going to set his guitar down so the two of them can go back to bed as Steve moves forward with his own idea.
“Keep playing.” Steve says softly, yawning as he sits next to Eddie and rests his head on his shoulder, wrapping his around Eddie’s waist.
“I can come back to bed.”
“No, I want you to keep playing.” Steve responds softly, “What ya working on?”
“Yeah? What’s this one about?”
Eddie hums, reaching for his notebook to write down more chords. “You.”
Steve huffs out a tired laugh. “Sap.”
“Just wait till you hear the whole thing.”
Steve closes his eyes, leaning his weight against Eddie’s side. “Can’t wait.”
Eddie turns to kiss the side of his head, going back to softly strumming his guitar as Steve falls asleep next to him on the couch as he plays until he’s tired again, joining Steve in falling asleep in the front room of the trailer, guitar left next to them on the floor and a mostly written love song left to finish another day.
