so, i was going through my notifications 10 minutes ago. and i came across this notification amongst a few others:

it already looks suspicious. tumblr doesn't usually inform people of security breaches by tagging them in public posts.

i opened the notification.

there were 45+ other comments mentioning dozens of people of "suspicious activity", about which they had to take several steps immediately.

and that was the moment i knew this is a phishing aimed to attack devices and harvest credentials.

because take a look at the post of @1255128758912896 blog:

seem off? it is. it baits people into believing that if the so-called "restriction" (that wasn't imposed at all, because this is fake) is false, they will get two weeks of tumblr premium subscription free.

and take a closer look at the "link", which seems so straightforward:

the plain text is linked to an entirely different website, which i copied instead of opening. this:

https: //age - verif.cfd/6W7G3N8U7

i added spaces in between so it doesn't open automatically. .cfd websites are notorious for scam/phishing campaigns.

even opening the link can expose:

IP and device data

browser vulnerabilities

notification spam permissions

fake CAPTCHA malware

auto-downloads

trudging further ahead and clicking things in the website can:

install malware

steal card details

collect emails and passwords

push fake investment schemes

please be careful with such phishing blogs. all reblogs are turned off and comments are deleted of this post so newcomers remain unaware. this is my first time seeing one, but it can look convincing to some.

most worn shoes: my merrells! they're green-ish gray hiking boots that i got on sale at a store that was going out of business about a year ago. they're obviously good for hiking, but also super comfy for day-to-day use

jewellery i can’t go anywhere without: my right thumb ring. if i leave the house without it my hands feel wrong. it has groot’s head on it. a lot of my daily jewellery is a geeky reference now.

most worn shoes: my docs probably! they’re the smallest pair of docs i own, made even smaller by how worn down the soles are now, and they’re so beaten up. i haven’t worn them in a very long time now though, as i’ve mostly been wearing the converse i got at christmas.

new book/fic that has me in its grip: in terms of books, i’ve not got anything on the go at the moment, but i do mean to start reading the first ‘killing eve’ novel soon. it’s sat on a shelf, calling to me… fic wise, i’ve been reading @marvelsassbutts ongoing carolmaria fic. i miss them your honour, and the fic is amazing </3

drink i can’t go without: i became a frequent cappuccino drinker this year… i’ve been trying to hold back on how frequently i’m having them because jesus the powder is expensive but i’m back home at the moment and had one this morning… almost shed a tear i won’t lie.

latest kitchen fail: i moved out about three weeks back now?? i think?? and my student accommodation has fire safe doors on the kitchens, but this makes them super heavy. so you can imagine the struggle of me attempting to carry a boiling hot boil of noodles back to my room whilst holding the door open. burn central :(

jewellery i can't go anywhere without: i don't really wear jewellery all that often, but my most worn is probably my really old, chipped, colour-worn-off ring of power on a chain. My cousin gave it to me a couple years ago just randomly and I wear it for luck under my clothes if I'm worried about something (believe me it's been getting a lot of use what with starting uni 🫩)

most worn shoes: a couple years ago I would've said my fake docs or Sainsbury's own wool top boots but unfortunately they both have holes in them I haven't been able to repair 😔 nowadays my crocs have filled the vacuum left by my old reliables, which is nice since my feet appreciate not being shoved into a platform or heel anymore. I'm going to have to start wearing my walking boots more often though since crocs aren't allowed in my lab sessions. Understandably.

new book/fic that has me in its grip: oh no bad question for the prolific one-shot reader and person who's last actual book reads were all for school. Um. Probably this 2 chapter mcspirk fic where bones gets put through the fucking wringer. Love me some whump and it has a happy ending.

drink i can't go without: right now due to freshers flu it's mostly water and hot juice. Although when it was just starting I had copius amounts of cranberry juice in my local spoons which was actually amazing, will be ordering again, even when I'm not actively dying.

latest kitchen fail: I made cupcakes because I either chew on myself like a tiger in captivity when stressed, or I bake. Did not check if i had the necessary ingredients and had to substitute part of the caster sugar with icing sugar and brown sugar. They were edible at least.

Embarrassing moment for my first uni event ngl), but the most recent is probably Bob Reynolds and that's all the wife's fault. Why have you shown me an actual good marvel movie again I'm starting to get a skewed impression that 'um guys, you might want to take a look at this' is a minority. I downloaded a self care app and named the little bird in it after Bob. This is not normal.
