I feel like the companies that make extraction shooters have learned all the wrong lessons from Tarkov, and it's kinda reminiscent of studios trying to churn out their own Soulslikes without much success for years.
By that, I mean that both extraction shooters and Soulsborne games have a reputation of being butt-crunchingly hard and the only solution is to git gud. But in order to make a good Soulsborne game, you have to make one that is hard but fair. Tarkov makes the mistake of catering to streamers and its sweatiest players, which means a lot of times the game is just straight-up bullshit.
The thing is, you can git gud at a Soulsborne game without doing it for a living. Tarkov PvP is playable but heavily favors players who've already had the time to acquire the best gear, hideouts, level up their character, etc. Marathon is arguably even worse about this due to the shields. Skill-based matchmaking is, of course, not a thing. Because git gud.
And that's frustrating because, y'know, sometimes you want a challenge but you don't want to get crushed 20 times in a row. There is cool stuff going on with Marathon, I like the aesthetic, but it's a multiplayer game, y'know? People have lives, stop putting up the pee wees against the major league

The transformer architecture, and LLM’s have very valid and very benefical advantages for humanity. At the same time, however, the raging psychopats who control these companies have indeed completely abandoned their humanity, and removed themselves from the human condition completely.
To let these people decide the fate of the world and its future is utter and sheer madness and self destruction for mankind.
I don't think they're raging pyschopaths or that they are deciding the fate of the world, let alone the destruction of humankind. I just think they want a lot of money and this stupid unequal (read, capitalist oligarch) economy is letting them get away with stupid things. LLMs are a great technology for research and yes, even entertainment. I just don't need them in every single thing I use and I don't need them to replace jobs that need a attention.

…so they’re now trying to search for “biomarkers”- which are essentially genes, or circumstances of conception/birth/what have you, that can “increase the risk” of mental illnesses. how is this any different from people wondering if there’s a “gay gene?” or autism speaks trying to find a genetic or reproductive “cure for autism?”
it’s not. this is barely disguised eugenics that they have ACKNOWLEDGED may (will) do more to harm than good for people with abnormal mental states. what else could the end result of finding a “mental illness gene” be than a reason to further marginalize those who are already marginalized, already branded as more likely to be (or even inherently) “mentally ill” and eventually discourage them to reproduce, either by coercion or force?

Psychiatry as an institution functions to obfuscate the causes of mental and emotional disturbance (economic exploitation, abuse, lack of access to resources, etc) by describing mental illness as an individual pathology that needs to be recognized and treated by science.
Given where these hardships cluster most intensely, it is extremely useful to white supremacy and eugenics to have a "scientific" method of proving that pathology is more common among "degenerate" populations.
The DSM's various incarnations have corresponded to shifts in which part of this process have been considered more or less important to prioritize - the latest restructuring to focus on biomarkers is just a recalibration to better suit the needs of the imperial-capitalist white supremacist project.
