I mean, yeah, valid! but but but I also want to add on the fact that lotr AGGRESSIVELY rejects the āgrimdarkā and āgrittyā settings that is so prevalent in fantasy (and also in general) right now, because I physically can not shut up about it
It is hope and love and compassion that saves each character individually, and because of that, the world. Frodo fails in the end, but his acts of compassion from earlier in the story save the day. And even as the world is saved, it is acknowledged that Frodo failedāwithout judgement, without blame. He fails, and he is still loved.
And like what can happen in the real world, he is still irrevocably changed by his trauma. But there is still hopeāhe has to leave, but he leaves with the promise of healing, and the promise that his ever-faithful Sam will follow.
Aragorn, Boromir, Frodo, Sam; each and every one of the characters are driven by their love of the people around them and their hope for the future. They cling to that love and hope throughout their trials, and that bears them through.
Of course people are watching it for comfort!!!! Lotr is eternally consistent in its promise, which Sam articulates so clearly in The Two Towers: āEven darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, itāll shine out the clearer.ā
Things are dark and awful and terrible, but it will not be that way forever. That is the promise of LOTR. A promise of hope, and the reminder that it is love and compassionāfor our friends, for our families, for the strangers weāve never even metāthat will save us in the end.
I just want to add, itās not just that The Lord of the Rings rejects grimdark and gritty fantasy - The Lord of the Rings is the original. Grimdark is what you get when you reject the bright half of the eucatastrophe.
How it all comes together brings me to think of how many Superman imitations are supposedly subverting the established trope by having the super-man be evil, selfish and anything at all to try and not be like the original. (Probably for fear of copyright, but still)

super basic answer but definitely a cat, probably like a british shorthair if we want to get specific, because well it's a cat duh (no but in all seriousness, it's because they aren't aggressive but it does take some time for them to warm up to other people, and even when they have, they're never particularly clingy. basically they're just more laidback in how they show affection, and if that doesn't describe me idk what does)
I've been told by basically every cat owner that I knew that I act like a cat because of how I act. It's not like I have shiny hair or have huge eyes. I think they just say that because I'm clingy and act really annoying and rube sometimes.

i think americans should have to put a banner above their post that says U.S. CENTRIC ADVICE/INFORMATION. i think political posts should clarify that they are giving protest/societal/class information relevant only to the USA i think i would like to stop getting halfway through a post with really good information and then realising it is not widespread advice and is only applicable in the united states of america
for the love of GOD can we PLEASE stop treating us-centric advice as applicable to the whole entire world. Please. beyond anything else, i do not think you guys understand how difficult it makes it for young people to interact with and learn information relevant to them.
at a certain point, treating us-american advice as universally applicable borders on misinformation. i am not saying that it is done maliciously, but it is dangerous at worst. i do not want younger people going around assuming that certain laws do/do not apply to them and getting in trouble because of it. i worry about what 'fundamental/constitutional/labour rights' are only legally defensible in the USA. i worry about kids who do not know yet to wonder where the advice is for, and take it as fact because a post that reads "EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW THIS" begins with "EVERYONE".
okay yes all the tags are very very good points but i would like to point out the main reason i made this post, which is that
if you are non-american then it can be dangerous to hold beliefs about your rights that are only applicable in the US.
i am australian and i have seen young australians have completely us-american perceptions on the rights they hold (or do not hold) in regards to protest, police officers, self-defense, medical care, higher education, debt, and legal proceedings. i am not talking about "boooo americans" i am talking about the genuine danger it might present to have us-centric assumptions in high-stakes situations
(please do not chalk this up to 'if you don't do research then you are stupid'. i made this post with young people in mind. that being said i am willing to bet it also applies to others, ie those who are newer to non-local internet, older folks, or those escaping high-control environments.)
When you're a kid you just take trees for granted.
