About a year ago, my first digital drawing on my Galaxy Tab A was of Tony Stark from Civil War.  I gave myself the same four hour time to draw it again. . Back in November, I 'cleaned up' my instagram feed, and that 2016 piece was one of the ones to go.  In hindsight, I kinda wish I kept those on.  I was embarassed at keeping a chronicle at the time, & now I find I wish it was there lol. . With the exception of a few pieces, most of the things on my feed since going digital have been drawn in an hour or two. With the day job, four hours is actually a luxury for me! 😵 . I should also say: one thing I knew I -did- want was to draw fast.  This 'style' I was aiming for, if I wanted to tell stories with it, I'd have to turn over pages in a reasonable time frame.  Part of that was to reduce the 'guesswork' in certain things: backgrounds, angles, faces... For this first drawing, I wanted to draw RDJ's face at an agle I didn't have a reference for... I know, biting off more than I can chew right out the gate.  But that's me. . This was the first day of me drawing every day again - or at least, as close to every day as I could.  It's funny - over time, I thought I'd get backgrounds before angles or faces, but as it turns out, it ended up the other way around... . Exploration's not over, of course.  Never will be.  Been second guessing lately, if it even looks like it have potential to have these amount to anything lol. To get to that style I want - in every aspect, ready enough to tell the stories I'd wanna tell. Even wondering whether to give up because I don't know if I can survive the ride. But I feel if I did give up, I'd be severely unhappy with not telling those stories - even if there was the promise of more money and insta-worty lifestyle without them. Tried to add color within the same time frame of a warm up! :) Had something else in mind for today's sketch... but Deep Breath popped up on autoplay & it made me really wanna visit this part. I only recently learned that Dave Bautista is of part Filipino heritage - on his father's side.  Reading about how he identifies with that part of his heritage is heartwarming.  It's made me pretty happy, seeing how a man of his popular stature identifies with it. For anyone out there of Oriental Asian descent, who might have had those childhood experiences of being made fun of, or 'less than' for it: feeling like you had to conform in one way or another to make that stop.  Or integrating to the point where the Asian part of our identity becomes almost invisible, laughing along with typical Asian racist jokes & never catching ourselves on it... ... check out the way Bautista champions that part of himself. As Asians, we sometimes don't speak up.  We don't have to be overly aggressive in our heritage assertions, nor are we obligated to be overtly nationalistic - Bautista, the way he goes about it, is pretty inspiring. "And they said, 'It's not often that the Filipino people get to be inspired by one of their own.' And from then on, I never took it for granted."
