Ryland had the dream again. Vivid and real, a memory that resurfaced perhaps. His brain has been a lot more fuzzy now that he's on Erid, strange things resurfacing again like he's been there before. The crisp air in his dream always felt fresh, nothing artificial about it. He felt... Better than his time here. He knew he should feel a little grateful that the Eridian's even took him in, let alone creating him a bio-dome.
He always lets his hand reach out to grasp the air, feeling the breeze brush between his digits. Then his eyes would see the face. Blurry yet familiar, something buried deep within his brain. Soft hair that blew in the wind, deep and dark eyes that stared at him like he was the most important man in the universe. This person, he knew, watched worlds fall and rise for hundreds of years.
This person held their hand out, rings cluttered each and every finger like trophies from past experiences. They collected humanity, loved every one of the people they've met. Never gave up on them. They saw the good, and forgave the bad. Ryland saw this person as an enigma, he knew that. With his hand reaching out, he felt the cold metal against his own fingers as the person gripped his hand.
"how long do you plan to stay?" The person asked, the question echoing in his head for the millionth time.
He felt his lips turn upwards. He smiled, gripped their hand and spoke: "as long as you'll have me." He has answered back. It was a genuine answer.
The person gripped his hand back, turning their eyes back to the vegetation they stood in. Everything was a lot different than earth. Nothing here was Earth.
Ryland woke up when the alarm he set on Armando had started to play. Loud and blaring that it made him cover his head and groan. "Off. Armando, please, turn that off." The alarm halted as Ryland tried to sleep in. He was up late last night with Rocky trying to fix something at the edge of the dome. Sure, other Eridian engineers helped, but those two had worked later than the others. If Adrien hadn't dragged them away, then they would've stayed until the next day.
As he drifted again, he paused his mind on the eyes of the person he kept dreaming about. "Anomaly detected." Ryland jumped at the sound of Mary's automated voice that the engineers had integrated into his very Eridian styled home. The blonde sat up in a daze, red lights flashing inside of his house - he didn't know they did that as well - Ryland felt his heart race when the waves outside of his beach house started to act up. System malfunction. He'll die if something happens to the dome.
Ryland scrambled out of bed, grabbed his glasses and went to his closet to grab the Xenonite suit Rocky let him keep. "Blip A detected." Mary said. Ryland looked startled as he zipped the suit up.
"what?!" He yelled, going to his window as quickly as the suit would let him. It wasn't very quickly mind you. The place was out of control, waves crashing onto the sand and the bio-dome hemisphere was creating clouds that absolutely shouldn't be in the sky. "Mary, scan for the anomaly." Ryland said.
"scanners offline." Mary replied.
"now?!" Ryland found himself frustrated. He left the window, going down the steps and towards the front door. He left the house, finding himself staring at the chaos that was happening. It was raining. Actually raining. They didn't program that in.
He left his house and slowly stepped into the sand as he heard a noise. Something wasn't right here.
He walked further, and that's when he saw it. It was... A house? Plain and white. Was that a picket fence and grass? "What the --?" The door opened, steam coming from the inside. Then a hand snapped out, gripping the door frame. Ryland jumped back, nearly falling down. A person stumbled out and held onto the fence. They had messy hair, smoke simmered from their body as they coughed.
"whoa," they said, standing up straighter now. "Have you got the time?" They looked at Ryland now as he stuttered for an answer. "Have you got old?" They stumbled to him and grabbed his shoulders. "You have! My goodness Gracie, you're so old now." Laughed the person.
"what?" Ryland looked lost.
"why are you wearing such an ugly space suit. Mine is way cooler than that." They pulled from him. "Oh, I feel a bit faint." They said. "Maybe going through that nebula at an unbelievable rate messed up my regeneration. Could have! Oh, but it was so beautiful. You'd have loved it!" Then they wobbled. "Oh..." Before they fell to the ground, the door to the house shut loudly as the artificial ocean and sky settled.
Ryland Grace was now left with so many unanswered questions... And a headache.
I clicked something by accident so now I'm stuck asking a question. Anyways, no update schedules and idk how long this story will be. Enjoy.
