Soulmate AU Hilson where one eye swaps, but there's a possibility of a half connection, so the first meeting is exactly the same, they were at the same conference and House decided Wilson was the most interesting person out of 3,000 people (still insane btw), goes to the same bar and Wilson flies off the handle after hearing Billy Joel one too many times and House springs him from the clink.
However, I really like the idea of Wilson dealing with divorce proceedings and coming in with two colour eyes will change the ‘no fault divorce’ to ‘you met your soulmate that’s why we’re divorcing’ (which favours Sam). So, decides to just cover the blue eye (I think the eye colour changes after you go to bed, so Wilson absolutely panics when looking in the mirror the next day), he’s got two brown eyes. When he meets House again, for another conference or when they start to hang out, House has one blue eye, one brown. I just am so for Wilson digging a hole for himself here because he assumed it would be a half connection on his part, he didn’t think House would also be wearing his eye. I’d just love this to spiral into a much bigger lie, where Wilson hates staring at himself in the mirror, with or without the contact lens because it was such a horrible decision but Wilson can’t walk it back.
Considering House not putting together it’s Wilson’s eye because it’s brown, most common eye colour in the world, how exactly is House meant to figure that mystery out. Can see House using the fact he doesn’t know who his soulmate is as a way to gain/garner sympathy, says it’s probably a half connection because his eye is plenty noticeable. Wilson thinks surely he can keep this lie going, it’s low stakes, they meet every so often. Only, House is going to work in New Jersey and asks Wilson to come see PPTH. It’s a small hospital but it’s so easy for Wilson to agree, it’s not like Wilson’s promising anything, he’s just gonna see where his pal is working. Plus, it has the added benefit of being close to the last place Wilson saw Danny. House’s mouth curls up easily when Wilson says he’ll look into it and it’s at that moment Wilson realises he’s gone for the guy.
The lie wasn’t exactly meant to snowball into this huge thing, when they’re living together, it isn’t even the fact Wilson plays it badly, the guy gets up early basically everyday, much earlier than House. But, on Wilson’s day off, when he’s planning to go hunting with his pal, House wakes him up with a guitar and Wilson doesn’t think deeply enough before storming to the lounge to figure out if he needed to be awake before the sun came up. He doesn’t get why House isn’t talking about ‘the creative process’ or his old gaff, something or other to fill the air. Instead, the guy’s letting the guitar hang solely off the strap, no longer holding the thing at all and Wilson doesn’t have time for this, he’s swiping at his brow to do something except throttle the man in front of him, after all, he just wanted to sleep in.
Wilson only puts it together an hour or two later, when he wakes up and looks in the mirror and sees his best friend’s blue eye staring back at him, House is gone, obv, but it adds a layer of tension. I love the idea of House pretending like nothing’s different, esp since Wilson wants to talk things out, right until Wilson says he’s donating his liver and wants House to be there, because Wilson is scared. House telling Wilson he won’t be there because if Wilson dies, he’s alone, the bluff obv falls apart and House does show to watch, not be a doctor because that isn’t who he needs to be rn.
OTHERWISE, House being the one to hide it more on the basis he considers himself unworthy of love but it's so much more funnier if Wilson doesn’t particularly hold much value to the fact he has two toned eyes at all, Wilson getting married twice over, Bonnie believing his soulmate died because that's the most polite. But, during their second date, Wilson's outright saying he doesn’t know who it was, it changed after a medical conference, Wilson joking about how it was perfect timing actually because he got divorced THAT DAY, it's too bad he didn't figure out who they were. Wilson's telling her she needs to keep an eye out for him because it makes them burst into a fit of laughter
