Something I've rarely seen being brought into discussion regarding the "People find the OG Ashley annoying." discourse in not only how many Incels are now sexualizing her and turning her into waifu material now that she's no longer hot-headed or mouthy nor has that high-pitched tone (which if anything was actually kinda iconic to her character), but are also "glad" that Ashley is no longer defending her autonomy or fighting the sexist bits around her the way she used to.

In the OG RE4 Luis pointing out her "ballistics" is instantly followed by her saying: "How rude! And I don't believe there's any relevance with my figure and my standing! Who are you?" She not only calls him out for that, but demands dignity and respect from him as well. But in the Remake she's never as vocal about it, though now Luis isn't as sexist as he used to be either, and many of the (male) fans of this game are appreciating that "She's more modest and down to earth now." or "She doesn't have to show off her status." Furthermore, a little bit you've probably observed circulating on the Internet is how in the OG RE4 whenever the player was trying to look under Ashley's skirt or hit her by accident during fighting she would call you a pervert for that, whereas in the Remakes (where she's wearing shorts which is an improvement but that still didn't stop gooners anyway), she no longer has the same reaction when you're doing the same actions.

And do you know what's even more frustrating? Lots of people are pretending that the OG Leon was the sky-scraper of misogyny or something because of a bunch of sexist lines that are cherry-picked, taken out of context and then put in a short compilation, whereas the Remake Leon is treated like some sort of groundbreaking revolutionary feminist for no longer saying "Women." (He isn't.), but if you actually play RE4 you would observe that Leon never found Ashley to be annoying or insufferable in the original game. He never once loses his temper around her or expresses any sort of frustrations regarding her. Whenever she's screaming he always responds with "It's alright, Ash." or "Hang in there." He never once insults her or tries to "put her in her place". At the end of RE4 when Ashley asks him out (literally the one and only moment where she made him romantic advances) he rejects her politely, to which she takes his rejection well. They're very much sharing a mutual respect in their relationship, yet 90% of people somehow manage to be more sexist than Leon, or project a lot of perverted and heinous shit even the OG character wouldn't agree with.

I don't care how corny or crusty the 90's graphics were. The OG RE2 Leon is the most charming and endearing Leon we ever had. I love his brown-gingerish hair with one rebellious strand. I love how his skin is tanned instead of lily white. I love his "unfriendly" facial features and expression more than the puppy-like final design we got for the RE2R (Also, fuck you Eduard!). I love how he's awkard and distant and socially dry yet shows his real colors through his actions. I love how he doesn't underestimate Claire and gives her a portable radio so that they would be able to communicate and know where they are during that night. I love how he doesn't give a fuck about the laws and his formal training now that he's the only cop left alive in a zombie outbreak and wanted to rescue Ada and Ben the moment he met them despite of barely knowing them nor the nature of their intentions. I love how in the B-Type Scenario he carries Sherry to the train and waits for Claire to give her the vaccine. I love that the reason he was late on his first day was because he got drunk after breaking up with his then-girlfriend instead of listening to some orders from people he hasn't even met yet like a good puppy. I love that his character is much more genuine and real and a loser, rather oscillating between a dorky babygurl and a PTSD edgelord.
