"Ever since that fishing trip two days ago, Pyro has been following Owen around like a lost puppy. As their roommate, don't you find that at least a little suspicious?"

"No, actually. About a week ago, after the first trip I saw them crying to Truffle. And while Truffle is amazing, I'm glad that they could find companionship in humans."

"Humans, huh? What if they aren't?-"

"Avid! Why is it always vampires with you?!"

"Ehhh?? I didn't even say anything about them?"

"The implication was enough. I'm going. Clearly you didn't take anything I said seriously."

"Wait! Apo! Why was he crying?! A week ago was when they went with Owen and Scott into the wilderness at night... "

"Who was crying?"

"AAAAAA- N-no one! No one was crying! Eeeeek!! H-hey! What- did you need something?"

"Well... You said something about someone crying?"

So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”

Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
