I always thought Reddit was a place where people could share things they created.A few days ago I posted one of my original paintings. People loved it. We had wonderful conversations about art, emotions, and how everyone saw something different in the same sunset.

About two hours later I was permanently banned from r/MadeMeSmile for “self-promotion.”

I accepted that different communities have different rules.But then something even stranger happened.Soon afterward, a moderator from r/pics started going through my account. Not just the new post—many of my older painting posts disappeared as well. One after another. Then I was permanently banned there too.

Maybe it was the same moderator. Maybe it wasn’t. I honestly don’t know.

What surprised me wasn’t even the ban itself. It was realizing how much power individual moderators have over what millions of people are allowed to see. One decision can erase years of posts from a community and instantly cut off your ability to participate, even if those posts had been happily sitting there for months or years.I’m not saying moderators shouldn’t have rules. Communities need moderation.But it does make you wonder where the line is between protecting a community and allowing a single interpretation of the rules to completely reshape what people can share.

The funny part?

I wasn’t advertising anything in those posts. I wasn’t posting prices or asking anyone to buy anything. I was simply sharing my original paintings because I enjoy discussing art with strangers from around the world.

Anyway…

The most annoying thing about making cities in the United States car-centric is that it also makes them miserable places to drive a car. You can’t make them car-friendly because they inevitably become actively hostile to cars. They are still car-centric, just unfriendly. Like dogfighting. That’s not friendly to the dogs but it’s pretty dog-centric. It’s also illegal. Something to consider.

Öcalan assumes that the first attempt at a “society of the spectacle”, fascism, was not actually defeated. Its protagonists were indeed liquidated. But the system enforced the society of the spectacle everywhere during the Cold War and afterwards through the nation state and global finance companies. The term “society of the spectacle” comes from the major work of the French philosopher Guy Debord, in which he denounces modern labour society, capitalism, the world of commodities and the alienation of labour. The current “society of the spectacle” in the West is a society that celebrates the superficial, wants to find fulfilment in consumption, looks at and admires itself in the media, considers everything to be measurable and purchasable and “in which the commodity looks at itself in a world it has created,” Öcalan also speaks of a mental conquest of societies. The hegemony of the capitalist system is thus maintained not only by political and military force, but also by controlling and paralysing the cultural industry. Öcalan therefore emphasises that the struggle against the cultural hegemony requires the most arduous “intellectual struggle”: “Until we are able to develop and organize the essence and form of a counter-struggle against the cultural war waged by the system through invasion, assimilation, and industrialization, not a single struggle for freedom, equality, and democracy has a chance to succeed.” It is therefore particularly important to take a closer look at the society of the financial age: “Societies that have gone through the filter of nation-state nationalism are societies that are constantly ready to produce fascism.”
