It’s 2026.
I argue (in a fucking twitter) with people who are like “how you can ship rapist with the victim” about serenajune.
BABY, SERENA LITERALLY CHOSE TO HELP TO DROP THE FUCKING PLANE WITH COMMANDERS
(albeit after June manipulated her a little bit in their typical bitch-on-bitch style of communication)
ACTORS CONSIDER IT THE MAIN LOVE STORY OF THE SHOW
(because these two are the center of the story, and even if you don’t ship it, okay, can you acknowledge how their relationship become more complicated? and more fucked up? and more fascinating in a gothically unhealthy way?)
btw, the last ep of Testaments?
gorgeous. they’re changing book events, but for now it’s not in a bad way yet.
the Plums are sooooooo good.
the stakes are becoming higher and higher.
also they have realistically tragic and angry teen lesbian, which is… exactly the type of heartbreak I need right now.
Just seeing the performances, Steven holding up the visor while emphasising “these,” and the ways it’s different from how the reconstructions have presented and framed it and made me imagine how these moments played out for years
I kept thinking about menstruation scenes in the Testaments Hulu. Especially the celebration of getting one in this school for future wifes.
And for me it’s kind of hold the keys to why women who called themselves feminist join forces with alt-right organisations. Because some women want womanhood be respected so much while forgetting about that experiencing the same things does not always produce the same experience and the same understanding of such experience. Gilead bioessentializes womanhood, making it all about the womb, the blood, the only feminine way.
And some “feminists” do the fucking same, because they are traumatized and hungry for power, not justice. They want power so desperately so they forget about dismantling the patriarchal system.
It’s interesting to read how women feel the scene of menstruation celebration as joyful one, because it shows how conservative (and gileadian) propaganda works.
And it works well.

I’m pleasantly surprised by a high tomatometer and rather good reviews for The Testaments, so I’ll give it a watch.
Sometimes I wonder if Elisabeth Moss is the best person for making show about indoctrinated teenage girls because she is still in the abusive cult. She may definitely do not think so, because she internalised scientology so well and logic can’t break this barrier.
But since we all make art with our full selves, with unconscious and conscious parts of our minds and souls, sometimes we tell and express things, which buried deep inside.
And I wonder what could be inside this woman’s mind…
(Also Chase Infinity? I’m tuned in. She is gorgeous, let’s hope writing won’t fail her much)
girl who sat next to me at the coffee shop had that Tortured By Computer Work look in her eye so i turned to her and was like Are u doing research? and it turns out she (white) just started working as an indigenous liaison for an ecological wellness surveying company (hired bc she worked with the local nation for a year) so i was like OMG can i share resources with you. and whipped out my 1 million notes and academic papers on ethical Indigenous-settler relations/research and Indigenous perspectives on ecological restoration. she was like omg are u sure this is basically a whole course for free and i wanted to tear my shirt off liek YES!!!! I WANT TO PROMOTE LOW BARRIER EDUCATION TO ADVANCE DECOLONIZATION AND RECONCILIATION!!!!!!!!!!! STEP IN2 MY GOOGLE DOC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
here's a googoodrive folder containing learnings on Experiential Learning in Ecological Restoration annnddd Research Practice in Indigenous Contexts. each course folder contains a "![Course number] Notes" document as well as PDFs of all the text-based readings that the notes draw from :-)
i plan 2 make accessible the learnings from my other classes too but i think ill only have time to do all that anonymizing & reformatting once i graduate in a few months lol
An Estonian made this, so I'm posting here: you can scroll Wikipedia (in Simplified English) as if it was a social network:

“egg producing equipment” This honestly sounds like something Aunt Lydia or Commander Fred would say in The Handmaid’s Tale
I don’t mean to be rude; but I don’t think I’ve ever seen this, does anyone have any examples?
Supernatural
Doctor Who (Steven Moffat specifically)
Sherlock (Steven Moffat specifically)
Actually Steven Moffat is basically just this sentiment given human form.
A version of this happened with The Magicians, tbh. Though instead of expectation: men, reality: women it was expectation: smug nihilists, reality: mentally ill queer folks.
Arguably Game of Thrones.
If we broaden it outside of television…I think Star Wars falls into this, at least the sequel trilogy. Maybe the MCU as well. And I can’t help but think of every band that’s ever complained that their fanbase is mostly women. 5 Seconds of Summer comes immediately to mind.
In general, most white male creators seem to have this massively entitled mindset where they want–and think they deserve–the time, attention, and enthusiasm that creative fandom (i.e. the side of fandom more dominated by women) is known for.
They want our eyes for ratings, our word-of-mouth for free publicity, our metas for social media buzz, and our spending power for merch and cons. But they don’t want us. And they don’t really want the responsibility of telling a story to a thoughtful, engaged audience, regardless of that audience’s demographic makeup. They just want to be praised for whatever schlock they cough up.
And like any other spoiled brat, they will break their toys before they share them.
It goes all the way to the top for kids shows. Toy sales will crash a show. Makes sense, but if those toys are gendered for boys instead of the female viewers, they won’t usually switch up the marketing and move them to the girl aisle. They cancel the show outright.
Mind you it is perfectly possible to make the switch in marketing, but execs would rather throw it all out than have something that doesn’t perform well with male viewers. For example the Rey merch was not expected to be popular, for some reason, there had to be public outcry to get merch of one of the main 3 protagonists. A PROTAGONIST. The fact that she wasn’t a huge part of the 1st launch says a lot already.
And what happened when female fans got too invested in the Sequel Trilogy? The entire writers room didn’t necessarily lash out, but they sure forgot how to behave.
Young Justice
Paul Dini: Superhero cartoon execs don’t want largely female audiences
#WhereIsRey (initial)
#WhereIsRey (ongoing)
The older, male generation of 'Star Wars' fans may be losing interest in the franchise, but female fans are stepping up.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was designed to be the opposite of The Last Jedi
You’re all sitting on the hot take of the decade tbh
And yet when they fond out that boys were watching MLP:FIM in droves, they had NO PROBLEM with it.
#SONS OF ANARCHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!#LITERALLY SONS OF ANARCHY IS THE BIGGEST EXAMPLE OF THIS LIKE EVER#kurt sutter wrote that show for MEN and ended up with an overwhelmingly female audience#because he’s actually a good writer and knows how to develop characters well and wrote excellent female characters#but once he realized that his audience was almost entirely women he literally took it out on tara and gemma in the show#but like tara specifically#he resented her character for being a huge draw for female viewers so he tore her development to shreds and killed her#in the most brutal gut wrenching way possible#kurt sutter you will pay for your crimes#i actually wrote a manifesto about this on one of my old blogs i should try to find it sldkjsldfjsdljf#long post (via@m-oonknight)
OMG YES. I LOVED Sons of Anarchy, especially the women and then I got to season 6 and it was like - everything was just tossed in the trash? And like, why did Sutter hate that Tara drew tons of attention? That should have been a good thing! He should have been like “Hey folks, this girl’s getting us more viewers, let’s put her in more scenes!” It just doesn’t make sense to me. MEN don’t make sense to me.
The 100 too. I’ll never forget how Jason Rothenberg would attacked female fans on Twitter and mock them in interviews, and then post links to male fan discussions on Reddit to praise and thank them. In his goodbye letter to the show he SPECIFICALLY thanked Reddit and it was so disgusting.
Star Trek from TNG on was also a boy’s club, even though the TOS fans were mostly women. Women, in fact, who literally created modern fandom with their zines. But after TNG it was all, “Women don’t understand Star Trek, only smart men hur dur.”
I think it would be harder for us to find examples of when this DIDNT happen than when it did. It happens all the time.
Doesn’t stop it from boggling the mind
(though it could probably start to make some sense if you follow the money past audience bases to maybe a couple of investors or like a rich patron … 🤔)
Stooooop I just wrote a masters thesis on this shit. Media creation and distribution is a means by which dominant power structures consolidate their hegemony. Dominantly situated creators get upset when the audience they attract isn’t the audience they wanted, because they view the whole creation and sharing of the fiction as an exercise to sustain kyriarchal conditions that benefit themselves. When the audience is Other, they see it as a failure of those efforts and lash out.
Simply, they’re trying to assert a particular worldview via fiction, and upon getting confronted with something else, begin foot stamping. It’s not just men wanting male attention and gatekeeping. It’s that the fiction in the first place was an attempt to curate dominance and whoopsie! they miscalculated.
(anyway if anyone wants to read 35k words of philosophy about this, hmu)
I think a lot about an interview I heard with Bo Burnham a few years ago, where he talks about this phenomenon with his own work. He gained a large audience of teenage girls, and people in comedy spaces would look down on him for that or say what a shame it was, but he responded differently:
“The real truth is, I would perform my show and I would meet kids after and young girls would come up to me and they understood what I was expressing in that bit onstage way more than guys my own age. Way more. So if there was a bridge between us that I had to cross to write the movie [Eighth Grade], it was built to me by them. I felt understood by them before I presumed to understand them.”
Instead of trying to change his comedy, he decided to lean into and celebrate the audience that he actually had by making a movie specifically about the experiences of a teenage girl. It’s fascinating to hear him talk about how he got there, but also to acknowledge how rare that reaction is.

Conforming to feminine stereotypes of subservice and self-abnegation has provided women with a back-door route to self-assertion. You can have a voice as long as it does not look too much like speaking for yourself. Perhaps your priority is God, or your children, or the rotten souls of men, or the good of society as a whole. Perhaps it is ending cisnormative heteropatriarchal capitalist cultures of exclusionary radicalisation (aka Mumsnet). As long as your priority isn't just yourself or other women. This apporach has sometimes been viewed as a 'feminine' way of exercising power. Alternatively, it can be viewed as a last resort for those denied the ability to express their needs plainly.

My next Black History Month request:
Pick one of James Baldwin's works and read it!!! The Fire Next Time is an excellent essay, most of us are familiar with the quote on gay white people from The Last Interview but not the rest of it. If Beale Street Could Talk even has a movie!
Look, I know Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not a perfect man or president, but he has more self-restraint than I can imagine, because if I had to stand there while Trump said “Russia wants Ukraine to succeed” while Russia is actively bombing my country, causing millions of people to be without heating or electricity this winter, not to mention continuing to strike residential areas, kidnap children, commit widespread torture, murder, and rape against civilians and POWs alike, deny my country’s right to exist and be free from Russian oppression, and has tried to kill me multiple times, I would genuinely be completely unable to limit myself to just a sharp eyebrow raise and a sardonic chuckle. I would genuinely start shouting and probably go for a punch. I’ve seen people criticize Zelenskyy for being “too emotional” and not controlled enough while speaking about or to Trump, but I think given that Putin and Trump often chat before Trump talks to Zelenskyy (including on Dec 28th) and Zelenskyy knows Trump is a compromised Russian asset when he goes to talk to him, Zelenskyy is, given the circumstances, pretty dang controlled.
It's easy not to become a fascist if you're in their outgroup. It's a lot harder when they tell you that people like you are inherently superior and that you are under threat from degenerate enemies and that you belong with their movement. That's one of the many reasons why refusing to believe that you're better than anyone is an important part of moral hygiene.

I searched up the line “you cannot give me anything, because all the you have is stolen” from Pluribus and somewhat ironically the google ai perceived that as a prompt insulting it.
I didn’t mean it in that way but, yknow what? I agree. The LLM is built off of people’s work who didn’t consent; it can give me nothing of its own, just a generation of plausible words.
The hive as a metaphor for LLMs actually goes really hard— it strips the individuality away from everything contained within it and everything produced is an averaging of a body of work from all of the writers and speakers in the world, while the humans outside it have their artistic contributions suffocated. Carol's work no longer means anything no matter how much they might insist otherwise— the work she considers slop is equated to shakespare, because to the hive its all the same, it's words to feed on to produce the impression that it is truly thinking and feeling as it reproduces data that it stole.
I see how popular Heated Rivalry had become and how many of my russian fandom friends are so happy about it.
And how international fandom is excited about Ilia.
But I can’t stop thinking about if Heated Rivalry would be about Canadian and Israeli guys— how different would people reacted to the show!
Like, if people hate Israel for committing war crimes and genocide — they should hate Russia too, and that would be morally and ethically correct.
(and as Russian I would completely understand that)
(also putting music in the show by artists who do support genocide of Ukrainians right now? like please. WHO SAID ITS GOOD IDEA. WHY. T*** should be forgotten or remembered as history of kids’ exploitation by porn-addicted man)
