Listen. Motherhood, like any parental role for a character, isn’t an inherently bad thing for a character. There’s lots that can be done. There’s lots of dynamics that can be done between a woman and her child. But the problem arises when writers approach motherhood as a one size fits all situation where every woman is nurturing and holds their child the right way and turns out this is what they never knew they needed.
Some women don’t want kids, some women can take care of kids temporarily but don’t want them for themselves. Some women just don’t trust themselves or feel comfortable around them, there’s layers and different perspectives that people don’t consider because of inbuilt misogyny and assumptions.
