I don't know if anyone has said something like this, but I just looked it up, the whole point of creating this was for urban areas where both the city and pollution is so dense that there is no space for trees, and even if there were they wouldn't survive anyways because the air quality is so wretched.

They're not replacing trees, if anything they're making the environment habitable for greenery at all.

It also functions as a charging station, streetlamp, and bench, and the algae removed during upkeep will be used to make fertilizer. It's a genuinely useful solution to a pressing problem.
