i always made a point of wondering why baguette puts so much stock into timekeeper despite the two of them being polar opposites in so many ways - ways that seem like they’d impact their ability to get along on a fundamental level. the most recent events in which they appear (draconis immortalis, now hiring, and the first two episodes of timeline of fate) pretty much answered my question perfectly.
timekeeper may be lighthearted and mischievous and easily motivated by their own whims and gnawing boredom, but when push comes to shove they Are genuinely reliable in a crisis. they’re perfectly capable of taking responsibility, it’s just that their sense of responsibility falls on a much grander scale. and that is why baguette (and campagne) genuinely trust her and her judgement to the extent that they do!
this is also why timekeeper is such a fun foil to baguette and campagne, i think - the latter two are intimidatingly stern and serious workaholics with gentle hearts and a strong sense of ethics. they may not always understand why timekeeper thinks, says, or does things the way she does, but they can appreciate that she does in fact have the best interests of the tbd and the multiverse as a whole in mind. no matter what.
