a number of years ago when I was at Boy Scout Camp, someone shared this bit of trivia. Within days, it had become a competition, the entire camp overrun by elbow licking. See, the thing about it is, if you're aware of the licker, you can feel it. But if you don't know someone is doing it, you legitimately cannot feel the lick. So for the rest of the week, you'd spot kids sneaking up on each other, attempting to lick elbows unnoticed. It was wild.

You actually cannot skip to being good at a creative endeavour that you haven't put much practice into. You cannot trick your way out of the 'knows that your work is not what you want it to be but don't know how to improve it' stage by planning or reading or talking about it really really hard. At some point you just have to craft through it until your brain finds it's own unique way back to the 'everything I make slaps' stage and be prepared to start the cycle all over again. You just have to make that project you're excited about slightly less good than you want it to be. (Says this standing in a pool of blood and covered in blood and also coughing up a little blood)

I know there's a particular idea of libraries that persists, and I imagine that's extra true if this site. But the reality is that 50% of my job is spent helping people with tech issues.

If you're going to be a librarian, you need to love books, yes, but you need to love people more. And, unironically, you need to love helping with the printer. Or at least not hate it.

and in fact you can feel totally ambivalent about books! the non-negotiables are really the people and their right to information.

My (limited) understanding is that a yandere is like a stalker while a tsundere is like, mean to you to hide that they like you? I may have gotten the nuances wrong but I gotta say I prefer the former solely because the intentions are at least legible. When I was getting sorta stalked (not actually, he'd just watch my social media and then suddenly show up when I posted about being in different places) I Knew What The Deal Was, whereas I've apparently lost out on a lot of opportunities bc someone decided to go the negging route and I responded with disproportionate anger

Listen. Someone tells me they want me so bad they wanna cut my legs off? Clear communication, firm and open, no rhetorical tricks, I appreciate it even as I am rapidly buying a gun.
