I love when people ask "how did you learn this skill?" I just started, there's no secret. that's it. a vast majority of the time the only thing holding you back is your trepidation to start.
well look who it is. my old friend. the conses of my quences.
do not 10k me stop that
*clicks reblog* your old friend, the conses of your quences, sends their regards
I hate when you catch yourself having a thought that hints at deeper insanities than previously imagined
TBH those kinds of thoughts should be acknowledged - and treated as a symptom that signals that you need to evaluate your physical or mental health.
evaluated. itās the ocd. on to the next question.
anyway I actually think itās better advise to get into the habit of going āwell thatās fucking stupidā and dismissing them immediately when you have these thoughts rather than ruminating on them, perhaps obsessively
Many years ago I saw an advice book for expectant fathers that had a question from a guy whose wife was visibly pregnant. He was anxious and embarrassed about going out in public with her because everyone could see the evidence that he'd had sex with his wife. Should he go out with her in public anyway? And the response was "Yes. Sometimes your feelings are stupid and wrong."
And that phrase has been my mantra against my bizarre anxieties and self-conscious paranoias ever since.

a collection of my favorite tweets regarding the Ever Given in the Suez Canal
happy 1st bday to... this.
I personally am declaring this to be a new International HolidayĀ
Happy 2nd anniversary to the Suez Canal blockage!
Ever Given Week, 22 March to 29 March (observed)
22 March - Ever Given Eve. Many celebrate by completing some small task theyāve been putting off, symbolically clearing blockages in their own lives.
23 March - Blockage Day! The main celebration. The exchanging of memes.
24 to 28 March - Hilarity ensues. Memes continue to circulate. The best are saved for next yearās observances.
29 March - Clearance Day. Festivities wind down. A more solemn occasion.
Happy 5th birthday to this
FIVE years??!!!!!!!!
one of my fave recent historical events!!!
This will always be my favorite gifset. Ever.
im morally obligated to reblog this every time i see it
Itās back on my dash. š

i find it v cute when rpgs offer me, someone whose sole strategy is āattacking enemies,ā status changing effects. āthis lowers your enemyās speedā you know what else would lower their speed? being dead, from my fists

"One of the coolest examples of creative living that Iāve seen in recent years, for instance, came from my friend Susan, who took up figure skating when she was forty years old. To be more precise, she actually already knew how to skate. She had competed in figure skating as a child and had always loved it, but sheād quit the sport during adolescence when it became clear she didnāt have quite enough talent to be a champion. (Ah, lovely adolescenceāwhen the ātalentedā are officially shunted off from the herd, thus putting the total burden of societyās creative dreams on the thin shoulders of a few select souls, while condemning everyone else to live a more commonplace, inspiration-free existence! What a system . . . )
For the next quarter of a century, my friend Susan did not skate. Why bother, if you canāt be the best? Then she turned forty. She was listless. She was restless. She felt drab and heavy. She did a little soul-searching, the way one does on the big birthdays. She asked herself when was the last time sheād felt truly light, joyous, andāyesācreative in her own skin. To her shock, she realized that it had been decades since sheād felt that way. In fact, the last time sheād experienced such feelings had been as a teenager, back when she was still figure skating. She was appalled to discover that she had denied herself this life-affirming pursuit for so long, and she was curious to see if she still loved it.
So she followed her curiosity. She bought a pair of skates, found a rink, hired a coach. She ignored the voice within her that told her she was being self-indulgent and preposterous to do this crazy thing. She tamped down her feelings of extreme self-consciousness at being the only middle-aged woman on the ice, with all those tiny, feathery nine-year-old girls.
She just did it.
Three mornings a week, Susan awoke before dawn and, in that groggy hour before her demanding day job began, she skated. And she skated and skated and skated. And yes, she loved it, as much as ever. She loved it even more than ever, perhaps, because now, as an adult, she finally had the perspective to appreciate the value of her own joy. Skating made her feel alive and ageless. She stopped feeling like she was nothing more than a consumer, nothing more than the sum of her daily obligations and duties. She was making something of herself, making something with herself.
It was a revolution. A literal revolution, as she spun to life again on the iceārevolution upon revolution upon revolution . . .
Please note that my friend did not quit her job, did not sell her home, did not sever all her relationships and move to Toronto to study seventy hours a week with an exacting Olympic-level skating coach. And no, this story does not end with her winning any championship medals. It doesnāt have to. In fact, this story does not end at all, because Susan is still figure skating several mornings a weekāsimply because skating is still the best way for her to unfold a certain beauty and transcendence within her life that she cannot seem to access in any other manner. And she would like to spend as much time as possible in such a state of transcendence while she is still here on earth."
From : BIG MAGIC - creative living beyond fear. By Elizabeth Gilbert.
thereās an agenda at play
from her autobio comics:
#on a darker levelĀ #being from Hokkaido means she has reason to be personally invested in the Ishbal annihilationĀ #because Hokkaido is stolen landĀ #like a lot of other places colonized in the last few hundred yearsĀ #if youāre sensitive to this kind of thingĀ #it gives you a personal stakeĀ #in genocide storiesĀ #that most Japanese people donāt haveĀ #>>Ā #idk i felt the way she handles the genocideĀ #speaks to having been aware of thatĀ #from a formative ageĀ (via whetstonefire)
Those tags are 100% right and Arakawa has confirmed that it was intentional in an interview as she has family that are part Ainu.
So her family history definitely had a role in how she presented the genocide in FMA.

DuckDuckGo's new search feature comes as the internet is being flooded with AI-generated slop.
The filter relies on manually curated open-source blocklists, including the ānuclearā list, provided by uBlockOrigin and uBlacklist Huge AI Blocklist,ā DuckDuckGo said in a post on X. āWhile it wonāt catch 100% of AI-generated results, it will greatly reduce the number of AI-generated images you see.
Left: AI filter is off Right: AI filter is on
Another tip for DDG - if you want to permanently get rid of DDG's AI features (which you can turn off in settings, but only temporarily) - for now you can just use noai.duckduckgo.com as your search engine. Works as advertised in the name.
Holly fucking shit yess! Searching reference is so painfull nowadays so this will help
China was so real for blocking everything Google and only allowing Bing and Duck Duck Go
One should always have at least 2 craft projects going. That way, when one of them is messed up and misbehaving, you can switch to another, and let the first one sit there and think about what it's done.
Sometimes (oftentimes), when a creative project is "misbehaving," it's because it is tired, and overstimulated, and just needs a time out to rest -- like toddlers often need.
And sometimes, you should give your creative projects time to talk to each other, as well as to you.
Instructions unclear; my 17 ongoing craft projects have unionized against me.
