New video in which I do 2 different pants drafts, mock them up & fit them, and alter them into useable fall front patterns. One's more loosely fitted with a narrow fall, and one's tighter with a broadfall. They're for everyday wear, so are not meant to be any specific kind of historical.
I made plenty of mistakes, but they still turned out fine. It's an hour and 8 minutes. I have 2 other partially finished videos at the moment, but patrons voted for this one to be finished next, so now it is.
Here are both of the pantses from the two patterns I made.
These are wearable mockups of the final designs, and they both needed some tweaking. The brownish pair needed the under-fall adjusted to the narrow edge of the placket wouldn't show, and the greenish pair was too long and needed the hems shortened a bit. (I did both of those alterations in the video.)
One would think it'd be common courtesy to not leave comments that boil down to "haha your butt is really big", but just in case it needs to be said, have some goddamn manners and don't do that. I will block you.
It turns out the cookies are real â sort of.
They are baked at the home of Lara MacLean, who has been a âpuppet wranglerâ for the Jim Henson Company for almost three decades. MacLean started as an intern for Sesame Workshop in 1992 and has been working for the team ever since.
The recipe, roughly: Pancake mix, puffed rice, Grape-Nuts and instant coffee, with water in the mixture. The chocolate chips are made using hot glue sticks â essentially colored gobs of glue.
The cookies do not have oils, fats or sugars. Those would stain Cookie Monster. Theyâre edible, but barely. âKind of like a dog treat,â MacLean says.
Before she reinvented the recipe in the 2000s, the creative team behind âSesame Streetâ used versions of rice crackers and foams to make the cookies. The challenge was that the rice crackers would make more of a mess and get stuck in Cookieâs fur. And the foams didnât look like cookies once they broke apart.
Cookie has been portrayed since 2001 by David Rudman, who took over the role from Frank Oz. Rudmanâs right hand moves the mouth, which is eating, and his left hand holds the cookies. Both work in concert to break the cookies, which means they have to be soft enough to fall apart.
Rudman said soft cookies are best, adding, âThe more crumbs, the funnier it is. If he eats the cookie, and it only breaks into two pieces if itâs too hard, itâs just not funny,â he said. âIt looks almost painful. But if he eats a cookie and it explodes into a hundred crumbs, thatâs where the comedy comes from.â
MacLean has perfected a recipe that is âthin enough that itâll explode into a hundred crumbs,â Rudman said. âBut itâs not too thin that itâll break in my hand when Iâm holding it.â
Not every (human) guest realizes that the cookies arenât meant to be eaten. Adam Sandler appeared on an episode and decided to share in the muppet's delight by spontaneously eating a cookie with him on set.
âAs soon as the cameras cut, he was like, âBlech!' â MacLean said.

You guys are gonna wanna see this
. A baby giraffe was born Monday at Hogle Zoo (Salt Lake City, Utah). Photo by Kennedy Camarena of KSL News.
so today a public health official guy came into my class to give a lecture on disaster awareness and he was talking about house fires and mentioned that the reason people most likely die during a house fire is because they refuse to leave their pet inside or they go back to get their pet. and right when he said this my friend immediately turned his head and looked at me and in that moment I had the most complete and genuine acceptance take over my body. I would 100% in front of my family and Jesus himself walk straight back into some raging inferno that was once my house to go get my fat cat. I nodded back
the best part of this post is reading all the tags from animal people who would also go back to save their pets. like no hesitation. walk backwards from heaven straight back into hell. someone even said they would go back for their fish. amazing
If you are a person who would walk into a blazing inferno for your animal, and your pet has free movement around the house, hereâs a training exercise that could help save you both:
1) Set off your smoke alarm or play the sound on your phone (if your home has no smoke alarms, pease get some!)
2) stand BY THE FRONT DOOR to hand out treats
Do this a couple times and then keep it up NO EXCEPTIONS. Accidentally set the alarm off cooking? Treats by the door. Smoke alarm sound on TV? Treats by the door. Changing your smoke alarm batteries twice a year like youâre supposed to? Give them a test run and your pets get treats by the door.
Most dogs and cats will clue in VERY quickly that hearing that specific sound means go to the front door and wait for treats.
If thereâs an emergency and even if you leave by another way, you will still know the most likely place your pet(s) is and can direct first responders to help.
You can also do this for any other kind of emergency alarm. My friend had both her cats trained to go to the front door for a tsunami siren.

This brought tears to my conservationist heart today.
The continued existence of these species is the legacy of so many people whose names we will never know--some of who never lived to see the impacts of their work.
When you count up the flaws of our species, you have to count the good things too--out of the many species throughout Earth's history that have caused the demise or endangerment of other species, we are the only one that tries to fix it out of our fascination and love for other life forms.
(Big thank you to the anonymous asker who sent this in!)
Earth Day reblog of this thing that made me cry.
And I'll add some other recent good conservation news.
â˘Green sea turtles are no longer endangered
â˘Giant pandas are no longer endangered
â˘Panamanian golden frogs were returned to the wild for the first time since they were wiped out by chytrid 17 years ago
â˘The Eastern humpback whale population has exceeded pre-whaling numbers and many other whale species are showing strong signs of recovery
â˘Salmon and bison have been returned to their former habitat in multiple parts of the US through dam removal, habitat restoration, and reintroduction
â˘The Western monarch migration was up 60% compared to last year
â˘Galapagos tortoises were reintroduced to Floreana for the first time in 180 years
â˘Attenborough's long beaked echidna was rediscovered after being though extinct for decades
â˘Five "lost" island bird species were documented by citizen scientist birders in 2025
Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die.
Digging through my WIP folder and I found notes for a story idea I had about a dragon adopting a human.
Not on accident, mind you, the dragon doesnât just stumble across a human infant and adopts it. The dragon decides it wants to adopt a human.
The dragon explains this to its lich friend:Â âI want someone to take care of me in my old age! A human would be great! Imagine how easily it could talk the other humans into leaving me alone! Andâ and it might decide to grow up and become a goldsmith, right? Some humans become goldsmiths. My human might decide to go into goldsmithing too!â
âI think youâre overestimating the percentage of humans who become goldsmiths,â replies the lich friend, who is not terribly discouraging of the idea, but also not particularly invested in it at this point. It seems like a plan with a lot of potential points of failure.
The dragon is undeterred, mostly because it has a whole hoard of gold coins and goblets and jewelry and trinkets that seem to indicate to it that there must, in fact, be a great number of humans who know goldsmithing to have produced all that.
Anyway, the dragon decides to shapeshift into a humanoid form, go into a city, and adopt a human child. It needs the lichâs help, because it doesnât know anything about human fashion. The lichâs knowledge on the subject is a few centuries outdated, but they attack a few fancy carriage on the road and reverse-engineer an outfit from what the humans inside them were wearing. (Those humans were nobles, itâs fine, itâs a victimless crime)
The lich fusses a lot with the humanoid appearance of the dragon until everything looks just so.
(âAm I actually doing it wrong, or are you just making me shapeshift into something you find more attractive?â the dragon asks.
âIf you want me to pose as your husband, this is the price to pay,â the lich replies.)
They go into the city, anyway, and they find an orphanage on the shady side of town, where the tired, overworked and underpaid matron clearly sees thereâs something not right about these two, but not in any obvious way she can put her finger on. Sheâs just happy to have one less mouth to feed.
Anyway, child get!Â
She comes along quietly, and doesnât even comment when sheâs taken to a dragon lair.
The dragon is ecstatic with its new acquisition.
(âDoes it know any commands?â the dragon wonders. âSit! Stay! Roll over?â
âYou may be thinking of dogs,â the lich points out. âChildren do not perform tricks.â
They both looked at the human child, trying to figure out how to approach her.
âSo, what scam are you running here?â the little girl asked suddenly, startling both the dragon and the lich.
âI was wrong,â the lich says, âtheyâve definitely been teaching children new tricks since I was alive.â)
Iâm calling it: the girl becomes a thief and adds gold to the dragonâs collection. The dragon claims their human child is a goldsmith, because look all the shiny jewelry she gives them!
Dragon, smugly: My child is officially a goldsmith! Look at this chest full of gold she just gave to me!
Lich: Really. And she made all this gold all by herself?
Dragon: She worked very hard, yes.
Lich: So she made this gold? She made it with her own hands? She didnât steal it from the kingâs tax wagons that rolled through here last week?
Dragon: SHE WORKED VERY HARD AND THIS GOLD IS HERE AS A RESULT OF HER LABORS. AND SHE HAS GIFTED IT TO ME, AS I HAVE PREDICTED
READER BEWEADER YOUâRE IN FOR A SCEADER
Did I just employ the "Treat Them Like You are A Kindergarten Teacher Again" method with my insurance company today? I surely did. Did it work? Probably better than intended because I made an actual doctor feel contrite.
So, my insurance has been trying to not cover my SNRI because it is new on the market and no generic available yet, so pricey.
I apply for a refill and the request gets locked for review. Again. For the 3rd time.
This time I call and immediately ask to speak to the actual doctor making these clinical decisions. Very politely. Must be a slow day because they allow it.
ME: [Teacher voice] I'm calling in regards to the SNRI you have placed a lock on. Why was this decision made?
DOC: Well, there are dozens of other medications on the market in that tier, and far cheaper for you and [insurer]. We have sent a request to your doctor to consider alternatives.
ME: I am aware of that. So, can you do me a HUGE favor and look up my prescription history really quickly and tell me how many SSRIs and SNRIs were only filled once in 2022 for me, showing they were poorly tolerated?
DOC: It looks like eight.
ME: Great job! Now, can you please look at my genetic test for psychiatric drug tolerance and tell me how many medications are listed in the safe category?
DOC: Two.
ME: Awesome! Now, can you tell me what type that other drug is that I'm not taking?
DOC: Yeah, totally, it's an MAOI.
ME: That's correct, you're really knowledgeable! Should I be taking something as dangerous as an MAOI with my other medications, or even just in general?
DOC: It's contraindicated for sure.
ME: It is! So true! So, last question since you've been incredibly smart and helpful. Is it less expensive for [insurer] to pay out for the medication knowing they already get a huge manufacturer discount anyway, or is it more expensive for them to pay for me to need potentially long-term inpatient psychiatric care?
DOC: I'll clear the code, ma'am and flag it as medically necessary. I'm sorry about this.
ME: I appreciate you SO MUCH. You have a great day now.
