Because in ancient China they grouped everything like snakes and insects into 虫 without it really meaning "insect" but rather a garbage can term for anything not mammal, bird, or fish. So this has carried on through many other words, such as 爬虫類.

That's why you can write octopus (たこ) as 蛸 with the 虫 radical.

ask and ye shall receive: When I write in Japanese I usually also throw it in google translate to double check that I'm not using the wrong kanji by mistake, and two years ago it gave me very dry and literal translations.

For reference, to give a dry translation I would put: Lately I'm into in Hanafuda. Nobody seems to know anything about it here, so they probably wouldn't understand my brilliant jokes. I guess you guys will never be able to understand "Mister November and the Scary Cave".

I have a fluent friend who is able to check my work for me and give me tips on hitting the correct tone (I was going for a comically casual feeling), so I'm confident that I'm expressing the feeling I'm intending. While Google is also hitting the same emotion, I really don't like knowing that it's assigning tone in the first place.

To check if it was editorializing based on informal grammatical choices, I formal'd up the writing to be more polite and remove any non-standard vocabulary.

only do something for five minutes and stop if you don't want. most of the time, five minutes is enough to gain momentum and keep you going. five minutes is also better than nothing.

also based on the last bullet point, I always allow myself to only wash one dish or only hand-wash one single article of clothing. because it's better than not doing anything.

if I can't brush my teeth, I'll use the mouthwash. sometimes just swishing water is better than just sitting there. sometimes you can just brush your teeth lightly without toothpaste. if you can't achieve any of it, just grab a tissue to rub your teeth a bit.

you need to do three things to feel alive sometimes, so that you don't thing like is so monotonous. I like to do something fun, something new and something productive. and somecan be two or more. for example, finding out and listening to a new song would be both fun and new. and you can do two minutes of stretching for health and it would be productive.

you can eat your instant ramen or your rice if you don't wanna cook. but how about adding something nutritious to it while you're at it? I like adding firm tofu into it, or a handful of vegetables. I'm not shaming myself for not wanting to cook but I can make it a better experience by adding something to it so that it's not boring or sad.

sometimes you gotta use a "done list" instead of a to do list when you feel like shit. writing things that I've already done that day and ticking them off cheers me up sometimes. that's alright.

sometimes just adding ice to your water makes your water so much more drinkable and fun. I sometimes drink both water and ice water at the same time. because I enjoy it.

as a principle, literally anything is better than nothing.

let's just try and see how it goes. just give it a little try. if it goes so bad and it embarrasses you, you don't need to tell anyone either. this is especially true for crafting stuff.

There is a character named Robert Thomson.

At work, he's known as Robert by his coworkers and Thomson by his boss. At home, the people in his neighborhood call him Rob. His parents, spouse, and closest friends call him Robbie. His best friend from childhood calls him Robbie and also sometimes calls him Roberto.
