May his memory be a blessing.
Willem ArondĂŠus (22 August 1894 â 1 July 1943) was a Dutch artist and author who joined the Dutch anti-Nazi resistance movement during World War II. He participated in the bombing of the Amsterdam public records office to hinder the Nazi German effort to identify Dutch Jews and others wanted by the Gestapo. ArondĂŠus was caught and executed soon after his arrest. Yad Vashem recognized ArondĂŠus as Righteous Among the Nations.
Their attack, which took place on 27 March 1943, was partially successful, and they managed to destroy 800,000 identity cards, and retrieve 600 blank cards and 50,000 guilders. The building was blown up and no one was caught on the night of the attack. However, due to an unknown betrayer, ArondĂŠus was arrested on 1 April 1943. ArondĂŠus refused to give up the rest of his team.
ArondĂŠus was openly gay before the war and defiantly asserted his sexuality before his execution. His final words were:
"Tell the people that homosexuals are not by definition weak."
From Wikipedia
He was also a pretty great artist

Shel Silverstein wrote and illustrated poetry for children,
drew cartoons for Playboy,
and made the most terrifying album cover of all time.
Don't put artists in a box.
Iâm not sure you could make a box that could contain Shel Silverstein.

this is the biggest plot twist of our generation
I thought there was no way he could come out of that looking like a winner and he proved me wrong so hard
The LGBTQ community has seen controversy regarding acceptance of different groups (bisexual and transgender individuals have sometimes been marginalized by the larger community), but the term LGBT has been a positive symbol of inclusion and reflects the embrace of different identities and that weâre stronger together and need each other. While there are differences, we all face many of the same challenges from broader society.
In the 1960â˛s, in wider society the meaning of the word gay transitioned from âhappyâ or âcarefreeâ to predominantly mean âhomosexualâ as they adopted the word as was used by homosexual men, except that society also used it as an umbrella term that meant anyone who wasnât cisgender or heterosexual. The wider queer community embraced the word âgayâ as a mark of pride.
The modern fight for queer rights is considered to have begun with The Stonewall Riots in 1969 and was called the Gay Liberation Movement and the Gay Rights Movement.
The acronym GLB surfaced around this time to also include Lesbian and Bisexual people who felt âgayâ wasnât inclusive of their identities.Â
Early in the gay rights movement, gay men were largely the ones running the show and there was a focus on menâs issues. Lesbians were unhappy that gay men dominated the leadership and ignored their needs and the feminist fight. As a result, lesbians tended to focus their attention on the Womenâs Rights Movement which was happening at the same time. This dominance by gay men was seen as yet one more example of patriarchy and sexism.Â
In the 1970â˛s, sexism and homophobia existed in more virulent forms and those biases against lesbians also made it hard for them to find their voices within womenâs liberation movements. Betty Friedan, the founder of the National Organization for Women (NOW), commented that lesbians were a âlavender menaceâ that threatened the political efficacy of the organization and of feminism and many women felt including lesbians was a detriment.
In the 80s and 90s, a huge portion of gay men were suffering from AIDS while the lesbian community was largely unaffected. Lesbians helped gay men with medical care and were a massive part of the activism surrounding the gay community and AIDS. This willingness to support gay men in their time of need sparked a closer, more supportive relationship between both groups, and the gay community became more receptive to feminist ideals and goals.Â
Approaching the 1990â˛s it was clear that GLB referred to sexual identity and wasnât inclusive of gender identity and T should be added, especially since trans activist have long been at the forefront of the communityâs fight for rights and acceptance, from Stonewall onward. Some argued that T should not be added, but many gay, lesbian and bisexual people pointed out that they also transgress established gender norms and therefore the GLB acronym should include gender identities and they pushed to include T in the acronym.Â
GLBT became LGBT as a way to honor the tremendous work the lesbian community did during the AIDS crisis.Â
Towards the end of the 1990s and into the 2000s, movements took place to add additional letters to the acronym to recognize Intersex, Asexual, Aromantic, Agender, and others. As the acronym grew to LGBTIQ, LGBTQIA, LGBTQIAA, many complained this was becoming unwieldy and started using a â+â to show LGBT arenât the only identities in the community and this became more common, whether as LGBT+ or LGBTQ+.Â
In the 2010â˛s, the process of reclaiming the word âqueerâ that began in the 1980â˛s was largely accomplished. In the 2020â˛s the LGBTQ+ acronym is used less often as Queer is becoming the more common term to represent the community.Â

Bulbasaur was never the same after that day đ
Omg omg I got a bulbasaur at build a bear and I was kinda embarrassed about buying it for myself and stuff but there werenât any other kids in the store or shoppers for that matter and the girl helping me said she was glad to here it was for me as she collects some plushies and has her own bulbasaur.
Well she was almost done stuffing him and then I noticed that you can put scents in your bear and fucking love cotton candy and the girl basically car salesmen style sold me on the scent pad and asked where I wanted the scent to go
And I didnât know where it should go but she herself being quite the plushie enthusiast was like âyouâre gonna hug him a lot right? may I reccomend right hereâ and pointed to his forehead
So I was like âawe cute yeah that sounds goodâ (my bulbasaur is totally stuffed mind you and I even had her make him extra firm )
and then the girl rolls up her sleeves and was like âalright bulbasaur! Here we go! I apologize in advance but this is gonna look very inappropriate!â
And she fisted my super full bulbasaur all the way to her elbow saying sorry to him and to me over and over again. It took her several tries to get the scent pad in place since my bulbasaur was so stuffed and she looked like she was straining and saying âI donât know why they didnât think about this design more, so many parents are gonna complain about this one day, I know itâ
So all in all this was the best build a bear experience Iâve had since I was a little kid and I love my fat, cotton candy scented, anally inclined bulbasaur to pieces
Every time I see this post I cant stop fucking laughing

CW: antisemitism, pale of settlement, pogroms, genocide, cultural erasure
I don't think goyim can really conceive of how much Jews actually hold back in our criticism of antisemitism in media, and when you hear us it is often because we see a dangerous message that you don't... Yet.
I have a complicated relationship with Tim Burton's rendition of The Corpse Bride. I love it as a beautiful piece of stop motion art, but it isn't what it should have been, he took a Jewish story from the Pale and with intention stripped it of its Jewish origins. This alone is incredibly antisemitic. The criticism you will hear has probably been "this is a Jewish story, it should have retained its Jewish elements" but have you heard why we feel strongly about this story?
The story of the corpse bride is incredibly important to me and was born from Jewish trauma and Christian violence. Mobs would routinely attack Jewish weddings, they would murder brides and they would bury them in unmarked graves by the roadside still in their wedding clothes, they reasoned that without Jewish wives there are no Jewish mother's. Jews are intrinsic to the story.
It is antisemitism to take our story, about our pain, at the hands of non-jews and strip it for "useful" parts, in fact it is heartbreaking every time.
We are often forced to pick our battles and fighting a battle over a movie that has already been released by a director with a cult following is not worth it, you only hear us speak up in numbers when the antisemitism may lead to another century of violence, because raising our voice means picking a fight, because so many of you already see our pain as inconvenient and it is exhausting to never be heard.
