I can't stand gentile europeans who say "we understand the horrors of the holocaust, it's in our bones" actually you don't. a rapist doesn't get to tell their victim they understand what it's like to be raped. you were the perpetrators, you rounded us up in cattle cars and then raided our homes, stole our belongings, more than extatic you finally solved your jewish question. you don't get to make our genocide about you actually. now they tout their "anti genocide" humanistic approach while still actively harming and calling for the harm of jews. you didn't learn anything from it, you just wish you could do it again without consequences

I also made a post about the good elements of the movie on my instagram, which are significantly fewer than the bad ones. I wanted to be fair.
i always see stuff uplifting persephone's chthonic aspects as queen of the dead by dismissing her as kore, saying shes "just a flower girl," and while i understand being protective of her deathly aspects which are often misunderstood, demeaning her equally important status as a goddess of vegetation, fertility, and grain is, in my opinion, disrespectful. she was portrayed beside her mother with equal status and honors. there is no understating just how important demeter and persephone were to all of greece, and especially the common man! they were the goddesses who provided food and nourishment; without them life was impossible. she is just as powerful at her mother's side as she is at her husband's. just look at eleusis! we can appreciate both aspects (which often overlap themselves) without belittling one or the other
I think I may never be sad ever again. There is a statue entitled "Farewell to Orpheus" on my college campus. It's been there since 1968, created by a Prof. Frederic Littman that use to work at the university. It sits in the middle of a fountain, and the fountain is often full of litter. I have taken it upon myself to clean the litter out when I see it (the skimmers only come by once a week at max). But because of my style of dress, this means that bystanders see a twenty-something on their hands and knees at the edge of the fountain, sleeves rolled up, trying not to splash dirty water on their slacks while their briefcase and suit coat sit nearby. This is fine, usually. But today was Saturday Market, which means the twenty or so people in the area suddenly became hundreds. So, obviously, somebody stopped to ask what I was doing. "This," I gestured at the statue, "is Eurydice. She was the wife of Orpheus, the greatest storyteller in Greece. And this litter is disrespectful." Then, on a whim, I squinted up at them. "Do you know the story of Orpheus and Eurydice?" "No," they replied, shifting slightly to sit.
"Would you like to?"
"Sure!"
So I told them. I told them the story as I know it- and I've had a bit of practice. Orpheus, child of a wishing star, favorite of the messenger god, who had a hard-working, wonderful wife, Eurydice; his harp that could lull beasts to passivity, coax song from nymphs, and move mountains before him; and the men who, while he dreamed and composed, came to steal Eurydice away. I told of how she ran, and the water splashed up on my clothes. But I didn't care. I told of how the adder in the field bit her heel, and she died. I told of the Underworld- how Orpheus charmed the riverman, pacified Cerberus with a lullaby, and melted the hearts of the wise judges. I laughed as I remarked how lucky he was that it was winter- for Persephone was moved by his song where Hades was not. She convinced Hades to let Orpheus prove he was worthy of taking Eurydice. I tugged my coat back on, and said how Orpheus had to play and sing all the way out of the Underworld, without ever looking back to see if his beloved wife followed. And I told how, when he stopped for breath, he thought he heard her stumble and fall, and turned to help her up- but it was too late. I told the story four times after that, to four different groups, each larger than the last. And I must have cast a glance at the statue, something that said "I'm sorry, I miss you--" because when I finished my second to last retelling, a young boy piped up, perhaps seven or eight, and asked me a question that has made my day, and potentially my life: "Are you Orpheus?" I told the tale of the grieving bard so well, so convincingly, that in the eyes of a child I was telling not a story, but a memory. And while I laughed in the moment, with everyone else, I wept with gratitude and joy when I came home. This is more than I deserve, and I think I may never be sad again.
Here is the aforementioned statue, by the way.

Twenty-one tons of potatoes are up for grabs at Potato Palooza on Monday.
The nonprofit’s set to receive a donation of 21 tons of tubers this weekend from suppliers in the Midwest. Hoping to get the starchy vegetables to people in need, the nonprofit will host a “Potato Palooza” event on Monday in Park Hill. “Anyone is welcome to come. They can bring tote bags, wagons, you could back up your pickup truck if you wanted to,” Hissong said. The event is 9 a.m. to noon at the Park Hill Food Recovery Hub, 6090 East 39th Avenue, on July 27.
This is the dream

I'm kind of glad to hear that everyone does this. Because it means it isn't colonizer bullshit, it's what everyone does. It's just people discovering new things. Everyone goes:
"Oh hey these people have their own style of [language A's word for thing. Say, what do you call it?"
"Oh it's [language B's word for thing]."
"Got it, it's [language B's word for thing] variety [language A's word for thing]"
added to which it is LITERALLY JUST LINGUISTIC SHORTHAND for
[item] the way [culture] makes it.
If you don’t want sliced bread, you want bread the way Eastern Indians make it you ask for Roti, not bread. Because Roti is bread THE WAY [EASTERN] INDIANS MAKE IT. Like fuck, it’s not that complicated a concept.
OF COURSE it’s not colonizer bullshit! It’s just linguistic shorthand!
Oh god, has MLB been here the whole time???
Remember immediately after the election and Black people were saying there was no more POC solidarity, that it wasn't white vs POC it was Black vs non-Black, and everyone said Uncommitted needed to answer for what it did in supporting Trump rather than let bad feelings fester (especially in a swing state like Michigan), and the left accused anyone who so much as brought that up of trying to divide people and said everyone just needed to get over Uncommitted's betrayal?

trinity "pound that shit" santos, holding out her fist and pointing at it like a loser, meet victoria "permanent look of disgust around trinity" javadi, who does, in fact, "pound that shit" like she's being held at gun point
and then trinity walks away feeling really good about the whole interaction like she hadn't just called herself "hot" (immediate grimace from vic) for trying to get vic to "pimp out" her mother for a letter of rec
mind you, 4 minutes earlier collins called her out with a "confidence and ambition are great attributes. especially when it’s paired with respect and humility." and trin immediately got an attitude about it. and then she backtracked and tried (her best) to implement that philosophy with vic
losergirl trinity you are too much. never change
i love when shuls don’t mess around
from central synagogue
can we go back to acknowledging that ignoring someone’s chosen pronouns is always misgendering, even when you’re using neutral ones instead
Watching kangaroo court & aabria goes to pick vic up & vic went “no no no no no” and as aabria grabbed them she went “is it actually ok?” & vic went “yeah”. Safe sane & consensual
