I have learned how to say BM in German (very important to know) and it made me realize that Stuhl (chair) and stool are false friends. But Stuhl (poop) and stool are not false friends 😂

Listening to a German-language podcast talk about T. rex and the host asked if the animal was an “Aasfresser” (scavenger). Except I didn’t know that word so I was like “I know he’s not saying ‘ass-eater’ but it really sounds like he’s saying ‘ass-eater.’” 💀

Trying to figure out if the dragonfly Libellula depressa is depressed 😞 or depressed (smushed). Its French name is libellule déprimée btw

My least favorite thing are language resources that are divorced from the culture the language is spoken in. I don’t want a list of fruits and vegetables I can find at my supermarket; I want to learn the foods that are a part of the culture’s cuisine.

I learned “saor” in Scottish Gaelic to mean “free” (as in available) but now I am learning it also means “cheap.” This has the potential to lead to many misunderstandings 😂

Listening to a podcast about Colombian birds in Spanish and they keep talking about a “chulo” and I’m like ??? I don’t think that’s a nice word. Apparently it’s specifically a Colombia-specific term for vulture
