OK y'all, we apparently need a refresher on tumblr.
So, listen up.
This post appeared on my dash today. Now, this, to me, is obviously partially joking. The creator discovered this wildly popular ship that is definitely a bit shocking if you don't already know about it. But they told tumblr users to eat vegetables and watch sports. Obviously, not serious hate or criticism (and fandom queers love hockey rpf anyway).
What was shocking was some of the replies.
First we have replies that are like the ones as follows:
Jokes with a kinda off vibe to them. Almost certainly not serious, but if it is, wildly misses the point.
Then you have ones like this:
These replies that despite some phrasing problems (gagging at the use of "yaoislop" and its implications) are pointing out valid problems. But, as others reply to these commenters, there are so many people who do it, and you can, in fact, just block it and only get mad at people who tag their shit poorly (which is very reasonable).
Then there is this reply:
Which has a great point. If you don't like it, don't look at it problem solved. However,
This was a response to that reply. Someone who doesn't understand 1. How fandom works or 2. How aromanticism or asexuality work, apparently. And the original replier gets a bit too apologetic about something they don't need to apologise for. They are being frankly way too nice and reasonable to someone who is obviously being very aggressive in their phrasing.
Then, of course, you have people like this
Which is the kind of person I just want to pick up, feed a tasty yet healthy meal, water, and tuck into bed because clearly they need it. And also they need to take a heavy dose of chill tf out my guy you're on tumblr. And you know they're so wound up because someone replies with "who cares" and they reply:
Like jeez man, you need to take several deep breaths. This isn't the first reply to this reply though
A breath of fresh air who the original replies does not respond to because it's a good argument they can't just get mad at. And this person has a very good point. A reason many are shipping this is because of the remarkable number of parallels between the two.
OP has rightfully turned off reblogs and limited replies before this gets too out of hand.
Anyway
Moral of the story:
Block or mute if you don't like it.
Understand the platform you are on.
You don't need to reply to someone who isn't going to listen to a word you have to say.
And fucking take a deep breath and chill
Stay hydrated, make sure you've eaten, and get some sleep.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but do not ever, ever, ever let someone guilt you into not transitioning. "But you're so pretty! You'll ruin your lovely body!" "But you're my [son/daughter/boyfriend/girlfriend/mom/dad/etc.]; I can't see you any other way!" "But we need more [badass butch lesbians/women in STEM/etc.] to show women that they can do anything!" "But we need good men like you to promote healthy masculinity!" <- None of these are reasons not to transition. Transition is for you, not for others. Other peoples' indignation or sadness over your transition is not your burden to bear, and other peoples' expectations for you are not moral obligations you must fulfill. Do not live to fit inside a prescribed role in somebody else's life. You must live for yourself. Please transition.
Not to be silly on a serious post, but the worst part about being a trans man is that I can't be women in STEM. Granted, I'm not exactly in STEM anymore, but I didn't know that when I transitioned.

The age old conundrum

Please Reblog is Your Blog is Safe for Non-Binary People.
If my mutuals can’t rb this then we can’t be mutuals
Ive said it before and ill say it again all kind people are welcome here.
If you don’t support nonbinary people, then get the fuck away from my blog
First of all, ofc I support non binary and gender queer people. Also,
Imma wax poetic for a moment.
Idk how to feel about posts like this (the first one, not any of the reblogs)
Pretty much everyone in your circle on tumblr is going to be of a similar mindset to you, no? Unless you're on one of the weird conservative parts of tumblr, you're almost certainly not going to be mutals with someone who doesn't support people being people.
So why would someone be posting something like this? Surely there would be people who won't reblog it not because they hate non binary people but because they're simply too lazy to, it doesn't fit their blog's theme, etc.
If this were any other platform, I'd assume that maybe this is a ploy to get reblogs. But it's fucking tumblr. We generally don't do that here.
So I'm just left with questions I can't answer.
Are people actually blocking or unfollowing people who don't reblog this?
Why was the original post made?
Is there something about this and this style of post I don't get as someone not fully native to tumblr?
I'd love your insight if you have any.
And @strange-aeons , as my fave tumblr historian, I'd also like to know what you think, if you're willing.
they seriously expected us to worship cops & soldiers when street cleaners and sanitation workers exist? fuck off i know who my heroes are

Yet another new study debunked the basis for the anti-trans sports bans. It was never about sports but for creating legal avenues for exclusion and abjection. This is one of the largest analyses ever conducted, involving 52 studies and 6,485 trans people. Read the study here.
post so nice had to reblog it twice and force it down everyone's throats
At minimum about 4.5 thousand people liked this without reblogging it.
We gotta fix that.
Progress.
Onwards!
I can't access the full paper, but their conclusion is right there in the abstract:
While transgender women exhibited higher lean mass than cisgender women, their physical fitness was comparable. Current evidence is mostly low certainty and has heterogenous quality but does not support theories of inherent athletic advantages for transgender women over cisgender.
Hell yeah, support trans women in sports!!
Shout out to my mom who explains my transition as "Having a daughterpillar turn into a Boyterfly". It doesn't erase the fact I was an adorable little girl, and also affirms my gender now. I love my mother.
I will be sharing this with my mother, incredible.
✦ PROJECT HAIL MARY by andy weir —in the style of a 70s sci-fi novel.
Dude these fuck so hard. These are so sick. I would eat them they are so cool
roald dahl was antisemitic and misogynistic. george orwell was openly homophobic. edgar allan poe married his 13 year old cousin. dr seuss cheated on his wife (and was racist as well as antisemitic!). hp lovecraft was racist as fuck. anyways they’re fucking dead it’s not like you’re enabling their behaviors in the afterlife or something. then again I think they bleed into the books so uh keep an eye out for that
the difference between these old white guys and jk rowling is that the former group is all dead. jk rowling is alive and using your money to oppress trans people
Why I can't get some people to understand this is beyond me. I fucking loved Harry Potter but the number of people that I've told to not give any more money to J.K. Rowling and they're just like "but I wanna see the new show!" Pisses me off so much. Like, if you care about me and my rights as a human person, STOP FUCKING GIVING HER MONEY.
I like lovecraft and his horror, I acknowledge he was ridiculously racist, and I can still read one of his books, because BUYING ONE DOESN'T SUPPORT THE OPPRESION OF OTHERS. ffs
Do you think people in the past realized that their shit was old as fuck?
I mean, we know our shit will, one day, become old as fuck, so I think perhaps yes.

the thing too is that. I've heard, when the book came out, the big twist was the alien. right? because it was from the guy that wrote the martian, a notoriously hard sci fi book, so this was just another notoriously hard sci fi book and oh my god what the fuck there's ALIENS in here?!
but to me, who decided to watch the movie 1) because it was getting stellar reviews, and 2) Because There Was An Alien, the twist for me was that grace didn't want to be there. the big twist of the film was that grace was a coward and was forced onto this mission against his will. not to mention the taumoeba leak, but. that was it. that was the thing that had be gasping in the theater. the big surprise. not that aliens were involved in a hard sci fi product, but that the main character, the guy we were rooting for, the man whose perspective we had been in for hours, was drugged and shot into space on a suicide mission to save the fucking planet and he didn't want to go. he ran. and to learn later on that in the book, he was given amnesia on purpose? because he threatened, Bluffed, that he would sabotage the mission once he woke up? I mean. when will we ever get a protagonist like ryland grace in a blockbuster movie again.
As someone who was initially a book guy (who saw the movie thrice in theatres), that extremely was the big twist the whole time. In recommending the book, I may or may not have mentioned Rocky, depending on how much the person I was talking to felt about spoilers. But I NEVER talked about the "He was forced to be here" part, because THAT was always the big twist.
And The Martian was my favourite book before Project Hail Mary, and I even read his far less popular book Artemis. The synopsis alludes to there being a second alien on top of basically telling the reader about the first one. Astrophage is an alien, and if you pretend that when you have one alien, you can't have another one, you're lying to yourself. Weir did Rocky in the most Weir way possible. I think anyone who read the synopsis and read the book in ernest wouldn't think that the alien is the twist. I DO THINK, however, that readers knew this was a twist, and out of respect for those who didn't know the story in advance, they managed to largely keep the twist a secret.
As a reader-to-movie-watcher, I'm glad you didn't know about the real twist in advance.
hey can everyone tell me your favourite bird. preferably in the replies or a reblog pls and thank u <3
the list so far.. in addition to any suggestions i also just scrolled through the wikipedia list of birds and added any names that caught my eye lol [and some are ofc just off the top of my head]
My local dove, the white-winged dove, harasses me with his noises and easily identifiable wings in the spring and summer, and yet I love him. I also love the Stellar's Jay. Very pretty.
