By now I think that will also be part of s4.

Because what happened with Nicki is deeply interwoven with what happened between Armand and Lestat. And ... after that Sam interview I do think they will address that still.

As per the haunting... I mean, this is Lestat's psyche, not an actual ghost. His Dream!Nicki, if you so will. Guilt, longing, love and history.

Giving us some insights outside of Lestat's words.

Which, btw, does not necessarily make what DreamNicki said "true". It is just what Lestat thinks Nicki would have said then.

I'm seeing the same reactions: "I'll pretend the season ended with ep 6" vs "I'll pretend season 8 doesn't exist".

Anyone who was there then knows that from a certain point on, the two ass*** believed themselves invincible, untouchable and smarter than everyone else (spoiler: they weren't).

Yeah, I remember very well, lol.

I... don't think that is the same level though. And I AM a bit more relaxed after the Sam interview, and his obvious excitement for Hannah's takeover.

We'll see.

Remember, there were writer's strikes and covid that hindered it before, too, and it did not suffer in quality through that... so why would mere time do that now :)

That said - of course I also hope and pray we get to it all sooner.

(Not in a mean or aggressive way!! I just really want to hear what they have to say on where we’re headed with them so I can either breathe a sigh of relief or resign myself to disappointment)

You know, I wonder if the questions at SDCC were "scripted", to use the show's word :). Curated.

I mean, it is an adaptation.

And they keep track of the changes they made to the characters, and use them accordingly.

This is not a 1:1 implementation of the books. They have pulled in many other books from the beginning, and they DO hit the emotional way points and main arcs of the books the season is (mainly) adapting.

Yes, I mean, it should be obvious :) by now that I also have problems with some of their choices, but... I still think the main arcs are, indeed, recognizable and very much there.

But can people PLEASE manage their expectations. Please. I’m begging you (the general you, not you specifically). So much of the “this season was terrible” has stemmed from DM fans who convinced themselves TVL would heavily dive into DM, despite book fans warning them that DM is not featured at all in TVL.

And I get the desire to see relationships you are invested in portrayed on screen.

But we still have the lesmand shaped elephant in the room to address (and I’m far more confident it will be addressed after Sam’s interview) + the concert and kidnapping + the Akasha(stat) of it all + the twins + setting up for TTOTBT (I think we may end the season with the swap) + whatever was going on with Gabi outside of her time with Lestat this season (Rolin has brought it up multiple times, so I feel like it has to be something they plan to delve into next season) + all the other vamps having to deal with Akasha and getting Lestat back (which will def have higher stakes than the book considering the state of post-Akasha Louis and Armand at the auction) + anything else major that I’m forgetting or that the writers haven’t cooked up yet

All this to say.

There’s a lot to cover in 7-8 episodes of television.

And it’s obviously not impossible that they would do some bottleneck-esque episode abt DM. But I really really do not think it’s useful for anyone to go into the season expecting that to happen.

The DM chapter is your insight as to what Armand is up to prior to and during Akasha’s rising. That’s not the case in the show. That changes things. It will likely impact what they feel they need to show vs what can be addressed via exposition.

Just the other day people were harassing Daniel Hart on Twitter for not giving them a “DM theme” this season. After they had already spammed the comments of multiple creatives involved with the show to scream about them “baiting” everyone with DM. And this is all the result of people setting unreasonable expectations that they were never going to be able to meet.

Sorry, this was much longer than I initially intended, but I’ve already seen multiple comments about how they “better have a full DM episode in season 4” so I can see where this is going and it already has me dreading the fallout if that doesn’t happen🫩

Yeah, I think people should indeed manage their expectations there. As you said (and as I have also talked about) - the season is already packed. And yes, I also agree that there is an elephant in the room by now :).

The show WILL do DM. And I personally DO hope for a past chase and relationship threaded in.

But the next season, while doing that... will not be focused on DM. It will be focused on the Akasha arc.

I'm very angry and disappointed right now and I don't care about Rolin's "great" plans. So when it comes to DM relationship, we have to wait for season 4 and the adaptation of TQOTD, because that's what happened in the canon, but when it comes to other characters and storylines, we'll turn everything inside out and ignore the canon. Logic, Rolin, do you know her?

I mean... DM is not even part of TVL. Or IWTV.

So all the DM stuff we have (already!) until now IS already a lot more than we would have gotten by keeping closer to the books (also no Louis and such).

With all due respect, but: They didn't just pull in stuff for other characters and story lines, they DID do so for DM as well.

But, as said before - they ARE following the main story and emotional way points of the books. In their own way, yes, but the big, overarching story IS recognizable.
