This is a silly tangent from a longer post, but:
I do believe that Edith in "The City on the Edge of Forever" is undoubtedly accurate in depicting her "young man" (Kirk) as a good boyfriend who takes her to things she likes à la the Clark Gable film they were going to go see.
That said, I also believe that Clark Gable would 100% be Kirk's type and watching him swagger around for the duration of an entire film in the early 30s was not exactly a sacrifice, lol. Gable didn't actually have much of a film career in 1930 but if you accept that as just a trivial mistake and look at Gable's films in 1931:
