Hi GNQ--I'm sorry to see that youāre leaving Tumblr. Iām sad, too. I actually unfollowed you a few months ago, and I kind of felt bad about it because as silly as it sounds, I felt like I was supporting you, but I unfollowed for the same reason you're leaving--just seeing the crazy shit that Tumblr social justice warriors come up with on my dashboard is draining. I can't imagine what it's like blogging for you, and I understand that you need to leave this place. I'll be sad to see you go, (1/4)
because your blog has meant a lot to me. I know it sounds silly, but it really was formative to to me and the way I think today. Had I not stumbled across your blog, Iām sure Iād still be wading around in the bog that is postmodernism. I used to be a really hardcore postmodernist--I was all about the pomo queer theory and third-wave liberal feminism. I acknowledge that that was an important part of my life, and Iām not going to decry it, but Iām glad Iāve moved past it. Your blog helped (2/4)
me to see that the postmodern ideas Iād been spouting (namely, those of pomo queer theory and of third-wave liberal feminism) are really fucked and problematic and needed to be examined critically. Thinking critically is so important, and Iād sort of passive accepted the tenets (what tenets there are) of postmodernism and played the part of the good postmodernist for so long I lost sight of critical thinking. Your blog kind of, ah... opened my eyes, I suppose, and allowed me to (3/4)
examine these ideas more critically, and to examine other theories less critically and to be more kind. I used to vilify radical feminism so much before (with a totally misconstrued idea of what it was), and now, I would consider myself to be more of a radical feminist than anything else. It wouldn't be fair of me to thank you for all that, of course; I simply want to thank you for (accidentally, granted) helping me in my journey as a feminist and critic postmodernism. (4/4)
(I didn't intend to write a novel-length thank you, but there you have it--I can't express how much your blogging meant to me without writing profusely. You truly opened my eyes to how harmful and destructive gender is, and in turn that lead me to examine so many other things critically. So I would like for the million time to extend a sincere thank you.)
Oh no, no need to apologize for the length. I think it's really touching. I always knew that my followers were awesome, but now I know my unfollowers are awesome too! I'm so happy that my blog has helped you. Hearing things like that really makes this blog well worth it. I wish you the very best on your journeys. Cheers to you friend, GNQ.
