Anyway at the end of my shift, after a night of monitoring his GI bleed until he can get to surgery in the morning, his blood pressure is now waaaaaay down and his morning labs show his hematocrit and hemoglobin are only juuuust above the level where the results come in with two bold red exclamation points behind them. It’s a classic 6:30 am rapid response, complete with an order for a blood transfusion to start in the no man’s land of shift change. His numbers aren’t great, but he’s stable. I adjust the pulse ox on his finger to get a better read on his oxygen levels, and I go, “ooh man your hands are so cold. Do you feel cold?”

And he goes, “I don’t. Wait. I do. I feel cold in one spot.”

I ask, “where do you feel cold?” Some questions you know the answer to before you even ask. Anyway, would you believe it was his penis? But the thing is, there IS a potential medical crisis happening right now. We’re triaging it in the hopes it doesn’t become a crisis. I had this vision of a patient with a medical problem he isn’t able to articulate being continually blown off by staff who then dies of Penis Explosion. “My god, the signs were all there,” we would say to each other. “If only specifically female staff randomly answering his call light had examined his penis!”

So I snap my gloves on and am like, “alright. show me your penis.”

My computer was running hot before I turned everything off; the office I'm in is very warm, I could feel the heat of my CPU through the keyboard. The fans were going, not as loud as they usually get, but they were still blasting.

Y'all.

I can barely feel the warmth through the keyboard now. It's been like 2 minutes. The fan is nearly silent.

10AppsManager lets you uninstall bloatware. Winaero Tweaker lets you disable crap like Cortana/Copilot, ads, telemetry, internet search results when you search from the taskbar, and all kinds of other stuff, plus it gives you lots of other little options that are just nice to have (like, it can restore the old MS Paint program in place of Paint 3D). Both are totally free.

Oh, and check your startup programs in the Task Manager tab to make sure your computer isn't automatically starting eight million programs every time it boots. But I think people mostly know about that. (Unless this is me going "they only know one or two feldspars... and quartz of course.")

shortest possible story is that he he got arrested and hospitalized after walking around outside at night, MAYBE having 'an episode', MAYBE he was drunk, maybe he was high, maybe he was just being loud, who knows. Dude was outside at night in boxers and cowboy boots and that's all he did to "invite" police interaction.

But cops claimed he assaulted them so he gets arrested. Then goes to the hospital. Then goes back into custody.

And then he's not heard of for a while, then days later says he's out and okay. But facing FELONY charges!

Almost a year later, Lil Nas X is out of a mental health rehab program, looking good, saying he feels really good, and seems to be on the way up after all of this. I'm really happy for him. I hope he has good genuine support in his life through family, friends, and folks rooting on him that he can count on.

I am really disappointed but not surprised how quickly a lot of media support for him disappeared, especially queer papers. An interview from before the police incident really highlighted how many people wanted him to fail and wanted to see him fall, including certain pockets within communities that should have has his back.
