the thing I love most about how tumblr users use tags is that itâs like what if a social media website had a footnotes system
god imagine that you learn a horrible secret about your family and that everything you ever knew was a lie and you go missing for a week and a half during a time of major political unrest and you start to question all of the beliefs you've held for your entire life and you nearly die several times and most importantly your mother, who agreed to this deception under which you lived for three decades, is brought to tears thinking that you would have adored Roots (Thomas Kinkade's Version)
just overheard somwone say "hey dude i dont see the future I've got two balls and neither is made of crystal" and im absolutely losing it
they should have made another search engine called Ask Wooster where it gives you the wrong answer every time
Well not exactly the wrong answer, just a jaunty, hopeful and well-intentioned answer that offers a pleasant journey but takes you in the wrong direction

aragorn seeing a scared little boy that knows hes going to die fighting 10,000 roided up monsters and trying to give him a pep talk. swinging THE most shitass busted up sword in all of helms deep and giving it back to the kid and going "this is a good sword." knowing full well that sword was so ass it couldn't cut butter. kingly behavior. he would make a good lesbian.

Swarovski can continue to fuck off.
In 2021, Swarovski (the company that makes the very sparkly crystals you see in certain jewelry, on figure-skaters' twinkliest outfits, on red carpet dresses), decided they didn't want the grubby fingers of small-time jewelers, clothing designers and costumers and crafters on their shiny beads and rhinestones anymore. They decided to limit their sales to "luxury" and couture creators, not girls who sell stuff on Etsy. The tenor of their press release on the subject was snide and insulting. Resellers (like your favorite bead shop) would no longer be allowed to carry their product; the average Jane on the street would not be able to purchase them. You could only get them if you had an authorized business agreement that bound you to very strict brand behavior. And those of us who still had good stock of the crystals would no longer be "permitted" to use the brand's name in our listings for sale.
Every bead shop and craft supply place and many, many small clothing makers--wedding shops, prom and dancing dress suppliers, the sort of salt of the Earth mom and pop time machines of shops that are the backbone of the field--scrambled to find something that could replace them. The last of the stock dwindled quickly, all of us grabbing what we could get while there was any chance of it, and then it was gone and we no longer had any access.
I was Big Pissed about it at the time. It was just so goddamn stuck-up, when wholesalers and indie jewelers had made them so much money, when some people I knew--when *I!*--had been brand-loyal for decades. But with no recourse, everyone pivoted fairly quickly, most of us to Preciosa Crystals. Those are Czech, quite sparkly, and considerably less expensive than Swarovski. The faceting method they use is different, but not worse; any differences are hardly noticeable when you're seeing them as a hundred pinpoints of light.
Well, out of nowhere, Swarovski just dropped this: https://www.harmanbeads.com/swarovski-brand-policy-update
"Effective June 1, 2026, Swarovski updated the distribution and brand usage policies introduced in 2021. Businesses may now purchase Swarovski Crystals without signing a Brand Control Agreement, and Authorized Distribution Partners may once again sell Swarovski Crystals to resellers, including bead stores and online retailers. Businesses may also use the Swarovski brand name when following Swarovskiâs Proper Use Guidelines. Designers, manufacturers, artists, brands, retailers, and resellers are now eligible to purchase Swarovski Crystals through authorized distribution channels."
They want us back. A lot of the companies who could have kept a brand relationship with them also have swapped to Preciosa, over the last half-decade, in solidarity with indie creators and out of a sour awareness that it could be them, next. And it doesn't hurt that Preciosa was able to expand their line quite a bit now that everyone who wanted sparkle had no choice but to go to them.
And I'm not seeing nearly anyone who intends to return. The feeling is, "Y'all told us to fuck off! Off we fucked! And now, that's what you can do, too!" I'm seeing a lot of "How many of us did you stab in the back?" comments from the people whose money they're hoping to attract.
And personally I'm sitting over here all rubby hands, mean snickering, because they really thought they were going to be able to outclimb the people who actually provided all their profits, and now here they are, hat in hand.
Hating how Nolan's Odyssey looks on the basis of being into Classics, but chuds have made it a culture war thing, so now I'm fighting for my life arguing that the issue isn't that Nolan cast trans and black people as gods and heroes, it's that he cast those people and then put them in dogshit costumes
I want a Star Trek show that takes place 3000 years after the events of the original series, and it follows an archeologist who just keeps finding evidence of Starfleet ships that broke the prime directive. It starts with her own culture, who worshiped the enterprise until like, 100 years before the start of the series and she keeps finding evidence of Starfleet having fucked up on underdeveloped worlds that are now spacefaring.
There is exactly one (1) time travel episode and instead of being in awe of meeting the people she's studied, she's pissed off and lectures them about unethical space travel.
In this episode, shenanigans happen, and a planet is in danger, and she realises why they broke the prime directive so often. and begs them to save a planet.
Prime directive is broken, she's the reason, and it turns out it was her planet. It's her fault. She spends the rest of the season having an existential crisis.
"and after all, in the end the Prime Directive is, just a directive"

a lil tomato soup made from roast tomato, onion, garlic and bell pepper with a lil grill ches. regular marble cheddar, some farmers market truffle cheddar, and a lil pickle for the filling. bread is a sourdough pullman's loaf recipe of my own design
man it is SO funny that everyone's still cycling this post considering that the meal poisoned the shit out of me
turns out the bread i baked there had started to mold, the cheddar cheese had started to mold, and the chicken stock I used for the soup's best before date was over a year ago. I found all of this out a day or so later and I'm now still dealing with the gastroenteritis symptoms
everyone in here would have gotten poisoned if I'd brought this to the potluck, good to know
I can draw a straight, unbroken line between how Yanessa treats her Aasimar children to how Sylandri treats her Elves
Beautiful, transcendent homes with every luxury and comfort available, paired with sweet, loving words
And no escape, no life outside her purview, no choice without her supervision. Wicander will marry who she chooses for him. Sylandri must oversee who gets to have children.
I like thinking abt the idea of saying some cool and badass and quotable last words right before I die but if we're being realistic it'll probaly end up being something like "Oh shit I don't wanna die" or "Hey, watch this" or one of the other usuals
alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)

I love that all the age groups agree
Hi no I'm pissed off about the age verification laws and bills again. So many grown adults out there going, "The internet should be safe for my children," with all the brazenness of someone walking into a bar and saying, "You need to stop serving alcoholic drinks because I want to drop my children off here all day while I'm at work." Except at the same time they're also demanding that arsenic be added to all the drinks, including the ones being served to children

I have a baby cousin who's Two Spirit.
Their parents are leftists, open minded, pro LGBTQ+, learned to use the right pronouns (to their face at least) all that jazz.
Their Auntie grew up in a remote area, little old fashioned, doesn't really "get" the non binary thing, and hasn't quite got the hang of the singular 'they' yet. But she tries.
When my cousin got injured and couldn't drive their parents shrugged and told them to quit their job.
Their Auntie drove them to and from work every day until they got their cast off.
Which family member do you think they'll ask next time they need help?
Do you want to be ideologically perfect, or do you want to help?
