one of the most annoying ripple effects of fandom culture is the way so many people can’t seem to keep it in perspective that at the end of the day they’re just talking about art. it feels like i am trapped between people who are like “if you dare criticize the thing i like you are basically personally coming into my house and stealing my dog and shooting my jewelry” and people who are like “global communism is being stopped from succeeding because steven universe is on the air.” and call me a centrist but i don’t think either of those things are true

in fact, steven universe has been off the air for some time now. that’s why i’m confused

Possessiveness is awesome.specifically if the possessive person is kind of embarrassed and ashamed and turning inwards about it

very difficult to vague in a small fandom. can't say give any details or someone will inevitably take it as a personal attack. can't offer a made-up scenario as an example because someone will misconstrue it as a personal attack that is also misrepresenting the "real situation." try to erase any and all identifying and referential characteristics and then all that's left is some banality like "racism is bad and you shouldn't let people's cryptic racism go uncommented on just because you don't want to escalate anything," and then your notes are full of the same type of people you're vagueing about agreeing with you. this is a theoretical situation that has not happened to me.

one time i was making potato soup and i needed broth for it but i was out of broth. but in my dog food cabinet there was a carton of chicken broth that i had bought for my dog. now the box did say HUMAN GRADE and the ingredients were just bog standard chicken broth. it did say something about joint health for dogs on there. but the ingredients were normal. i even compared the ingredients list to some normal person broth and they were the same. so i did put dog broth in that soup and it did taste completely normal. but i did use the dog broth.
