Rooster has a confirmed air to air kill as well.

Technically, "air-to-air kill" is the act of one aircraft shooting down an enemy aircraft, typically with a missile or cannon.

Rooster saved Mav's life by shooting down the chopper that was about to shoot him.

You can see the pilot when Mav is staring at the helicopter. Plus there isn't actually any windows or doors on a drone powered helicopter, so the fact that there was on the one aiming at Maverick indicates that it was, in fact, a human flown aircraft.

Which means that when Rooster shot down that aircraft, it should count as an air to air kill.

I've kinda always wanted to write a fic where he struggles with the fall out of it, of how he would feel considering it's not a common thing for pilots, even fighter pilots.

"Earlier this week, someone made a post on reddit asking for help identifying anyone in a couple of old polaroids he had found in an old desk he had bought at a thrift store."

"I'm listening,” Ice says slowly, not entirely sure where Bradley is going with this, but he’s willing to hear him out.

"Someone I went to college with sent me the link because one of the men in the photos is clearly in the Navy." Bradley takes a breath and then keeps going, "In one of the photographs, the man in uniform is kissing the guy who is in civvies and in the next photo, one of them is holding a kid."

“Okay…” Ice doesn’t rush Bradley, he can see that he’s doing his best to figure out his words. He is starting to think that Bradley must have hoofed it here from his own spot on base.

“Now everyone on line is trying to figure out how old the men are and…”

“Ah,” Ice thinks he knows where Bradley is going with this, even if the photographs are recent enough, it could still affect the careers of any servicemen if the publicity gets to be too much. Why Bradley came to him however, is another mystery, but Ice can focus on one thing at a time.

"What year was this?" Ice asks, pulling his notepad towards him so he can make notes.

"Well, I look around four years old, so maybe 86? 87?” Bradley tells him, thinking aloud and looking at his phone, as if he’s trying to confirm it.

"You look around four years old," Ice repeats unthinking.

And then his brain catches up to what he just said.

"You," Ice says again, this time with more stress on the word. "Oh my god."

I really do love it when a character gets to safety after some grueling experience they survived and got out of by their own strength and skill and cunning, and... then gets drastically worse very rapidly afterwards. Just utterly collapsing, sick, out of strength, in so much pain, hardly able to get out of bed without help, probably emotionally an utter mess too

Because they've just been pushing their body on and on, to its limits and past, because they had to, because it was up to them to deal with it all, there was no help, no back-up, nothing to rely on but themself. So their mind and body have just burned up all the reserves and endured it all as best as possible, they've held together until they got out of that situation

But now that they're finally safe, their body recognizes it. Now that they're finally safe they no longer need to endure more, they no longer need to keep anything together, to push the pain and exhaustion aside and refuse to feel it in order to go on. They're finally safe to stop all of that. And so- they collapse. All of it catches up with them all at once, and they have no optipn to keep it at bay anymore, they just have to feel it. Have to suffer the consequences of all the injuries, exhaustion, whatever illness they might've picked up, whatever's going on
