slow down for your disabled friends. thats like a bare minimum kindness that we shouldnt have to ask for. i love that youre so quirky and walking fast is a cool personality trait to you and all that but i bet you can count your physically disabled friends on less than one hand
ohhh this one resonated didnt it
Have you ever seen a twitter thread (or, in this case, two!) that so perfectly expressed everything youād felt over months and months of persistent harassment? With all credit to @blackblobyellowcone, who is clearly amazing and completely gets itā not just why us women write and read the erotica that we do, but the history behind the censorship we, as a gender, have experienced. Bravo.Ā
I usually donāt reblog anything but I felt like this is an appropriate addition to the blog concerning those who have tried to call me out for writing darker subject matter.
Each to their own but read through it and stop bothering me for writing what I (and many others) enjoy.
i feel like "feminist" anti-kink sentiment is very tail-wagging-the-dog. like male doms playing out bdsm scenes of abuse are not oppressing their female subs that's acting. you're mad at acting. you're those aliens from galaxy quest. same with fearmongering about "booktok". however an eroticized version of patriarchal dynamics being a popular kink DOES speak to the pervasiveness of sexism, bc eroticizing the oppression is a way of coping with living under it. it's women creating a fantasy world where men being menacing to them is sexy and not scary like it is irl, or where it is still scary but in the fun way like a horror movie bc you can tap out at any time by using a safe word or putting the book down. acting like this sort of kink is oppressing women is like if you assumed the thermometer controlled the weather outside. it might be depressing to look at the thermometer and see the impact of climate change, but it's not the thermometer's fault

if we can set aside attachment discourse for a moment (please) i think the jedi marriage prohibition makes sense in a āplease donāt enter a complex legal, financial, social, and in some cases religious contract, the specifics of which vary wildly depending on planet and cultureā way. the single jedi with a law degree does not have time to draft everyoneās prenups to prevent the whole order from getting sued
#we could create so many interesting new problems if we ignore romance and make it about contracts generally#jedi prohibition on getting a loan. jedi prohibition on signing a waiver before bungee jumping. etc
"Qui-Gon didn't try to buy Anakin or the engine because there wasn't anyone in town who offered a credit exchange service" wrong. Qui-Gon gambled for Anakin under the table because after dealing with the Cyrkon Delinquency of 24850, Master Olobi, Esq, has personally promised to hang by the the toes from the highest tower of the Temple for one week any Jedi who generates any trackable legal transaction or obligation between the Order and the Hutts.
i think this captures the defining pathology of the collective social media psyche right now. we are in the thrall of people who are wantonly cruel but who also demand to be coddled at all times in every way

How do you write healthy parent-child relationships?
this might be more response than you want, but interesting (and kinda depressing when you think about it) fact: thereāve been a bunch of research studies where parents have been asked what they think makes a healthy parent-child relationship, and they tend to likeā¦not answer the actual question because they think theyāre being asked what good parenting is, which is not the same. so they talk about things like helping kids with homework and making sure they eat well. children, on the other hand, usually respond to the same question with stuff thatās literally just the definition of healthy relationships generally. affection, honesty, respect, spending time together, sharing interests. and the real kicker is, objectively, we know thatās theĀ kind of stuff that actually has a much better impact not only on whether or not the relationship is strong and positive but also the kidās overall happiness and psychological health.
so, if you want to write a character whoās really intent on being a Good Parent youād have them putting massive effort into making their kid Grow Up Right, worrying about shit like if they have The Right Friends and theyāre spending Enough Time Outside. but if you want to write a good relationship, just make parent and kid laugh together and respect boundaries and be emotionally supportive, like you would when writing a solid pair of friends or romantic couple.
No that was actually really helpful and Iām glad you took the time to give a serious response

Did you know that umā¦. (remembers that words are very unnecessary, they can only do harm) ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦
I loved someone once who was disabled. I didnāt care that they were disabled. I didnāt care that if we lived together Iād probably be supporting them for the rest of their life. I didnāt care about the hospital visits. I didnāt care about their limitations. Because it was them. Because if itās them then all that work isnāt work at all.
One of the things that ended up driving us apart in the end though is that they didnāt believe me when I told them this. They didnāt believe that I didnāt care about their disabilities. They didnāt believe that I was prepared to support them because my love turned all of that work into nothing.
As we drifted apart I learned something about myself. I can only fight to try to make someone believe that I care about them for so long. The hospital visits, the care tasks, the financial stuff, the limitations, I donāt care about. I could do that forever without a second thought. Fighting to be believed though? To have my love for someone questioned by them at every turn? I canāt do that.
Itās been a while since I drifted apart from this person I thought Iād be spending the rest of my life with so I feel like I can talk about it now and I guess I wanna suggest that maybe you should believe people sometimes when they say that they love you because your insistence that they donāt could be the thing that makes you drift apart.
my mum has severe knee problems and needs a replacement. Today she was told she's too fat to be operated on and the knee specialist suggested she gets a gastric band - which also involves surgery. So my mum was like first of all you didn't read my file because it explains that I'm not fat because I eat too much second of all you said it's impossible for me to get surgery and then suggested I get a surgery about it? He then asked her her weight and height, didn't believe her answer, and made her prove it to him because she "looks fatter than that". So she was like so you also just entirely based this on looks instead of actual numbers?
My mom went through something similar. She needed a knee replacement and her doctor wouldnāt okay it until she lost weight, which was difficult given the whole knee problem preventing her from walking thing. He told her she was too dangerous to operate on and that there were just too many risks.
My mom tried to lose weight in vain for months before she finally gave into my begging her to get a second opinion. The first doctor she saw next scheduled her for surgery the same day she met him. When my mom asked about the risk of operating on her he told her that there was some minor risks for complication and that all she would need to do to alleviate the risk was spend an extra night in the hospital so that they could keep a look out for any complications.
There were zero. There were also zero complications when she had her other knee done, her hip replaced and her gallbladder removed.
Almost like the first doctor was entirely full of shit and just trying to coerce his patient to lose weight by scaring her for fucking nothing, even when she was living day to day in excruciating pain and desperately needed a surgery.
