kinda bullshit the English language doesn't have a discrete word for an unlit campfire. you light a campfire, but what is it before you light it? also a campfire, I guess. I need to invent a word that can be intuitively understood as "the arrangement of wood that is intended to become a campfire"

firepit is the location where the wood goes but is not the wood itself. kindling/tinder are the material used for starting the fire but are also distinct from the firewood arrangement itself. any term that ends in "-fire" has the same problem of referring to something already lit, which is why I was looking for a term that refers to the wood instead of the fire. a bundle of sticks also isn't exactly the arrangement you'd use for a campfire, it's just a bundle. technically pyre works, even though it usually refers to a funerary pyre; its second meaning is more broad and refers to any arrangement of firewood, so I'll make do with that. but I still wish there was a bespoke word for what I'm referring to.
