Peabo was of the master class of crooners. The warmth and sincerity of his gift never failed. I was always amazed through the years at how that charming voice could stop me in my tracks and transport my tired spirit while I performed the mundane tasks of folding laundry or merging into expressway traffic. At his concerts, I had up-close views of him caressing the microphone or tinkling moody intros on the grand piano. He was commanding in a full-throated, ten-toes-down way that was always deeply moving.
