a heap of ideas and a heap of woes

I thought it would be a good idea to list some of the artists on tumblr that I follow/reblog from who include fat designs in their art always, not only when it is commissioned to them (which I found out is a good indicator of the respect they actually have). Some of them do commissions, others sell their own products. 

I thought that this would not only help those who want to commission or buy art but also those who simply want to follow artists who post fat designs without having to search the tags and encounter an immense amount of fatphobia and highly hateful content (if you regularly search the tags, you know what I’m talking about). 

If you are an artist who includes fat characters in your art, especially if you do commissions, please reblog this post and add yourself to the list. If you don’t use tumblr frequently you can also add another handle or link for people to be able to find you and contact you about your work!  As a side note for whoever needs the heads up, not all of the platforms are completely sfw.

star was a magical girl princess archetype who, during the early run of the series, was just being cute and having adorable magical powers and whimsical whacky adventures

it is later on in the series that you find out that the cute magical powers are cute because she's inherited said magic and every woman in her family line had a different manifestation of said power

it's even further into it that you find out that her linage is tainted by the fact that they not only were never intended to have magic in the first place, they wrongly obtained it, misused it and exploited the native species of the land they colonized

it is also later on that you find out how magic-created creatures like the high council perpetuated this and covered up ages of manipulation to keep this in place

contrary to what you expected, monsters are a native species that were oppressed by the knights and magical princesses and queens

and then the companion book, released before the end of the series, does a wild thing of putting the history through the different povs of the queens in a way in which you, the reader, have to extrapolate what's happening rather than it telling you

you have a book that is a journal, diary and grimoire of the different women of the matriarchy, which reveals in its pov shift what is happening behind the scenes, but you have to really look

hell, the part about the cover-up queen after the high council decides to change the one that wasn't doing what she was supposed to is done through vapid social media distraction

the ending, with its shortcomings and network-powered limitations, was controversial, because there was no way out of centuries long oppression and appropriation that could end neatly

star and the women in her line eliminated the magic they were never meant to have and, with that, magical creations and beings that had been entirely produced by it disappeared, while dimensional beings were returned to their original dimensions and entities who originally held magic biologically, not related to magical creation through humans on mewni, remained

it wasn't at all a perfect show, it had its shortcomings and issues, but it was a hell of a lot more layered than anyone expected when it started and, to me, one of the biggest examples in the last years of audiences not being able to grasp something in any way nuanced and expecting clear cut things

star's actions were complex and problematic, worthy of being debated about and of discussing what the outcome of the decision was, not only due to her but to the ages of magical abuse her linage and the council had perpetrated

but that isn't necessarily a "bad writing" outcome in a story about complex and problematic monarchs who oppressed a native species to perpetuate power

hell, the title even, "star vs the forces of evil" already sets up the opposite to what the show was going to be about, because she wasn't fighting evil, she was complicit in it, and had to learn her own history for herself to grasp it and make amends in a way that was never going to feel 100% right

in a twist of the universe, disney was the network that finally picked up this story, and as a company with the cinematic hold on the princess genre that it has, I find it particularly interesting to have a take on princesses with this level of narrative complexity and not a clear obvious solution to a complicated and uncomfortable problem, with all the issues and missteps it had
