You ever think about how unified humanity is by just everyday experiences? Tudor peasants had hangnails, nobles in the Qin dynasty had favorite foods, workers in the 1700s liked seeing flowers growing in pavement cracks, a cook in medieval Iran teared up cutting onions, a mom in 1300 told her son not to get grass stains on his clothes, some girl in the past loved staying up late to see the sun rise.
there are scriptures all over the world painstakingly crafted hundreds of years ago with paw prints and spelling mistakes or drawings covering up mistakes. a bunch of teenage girls 2000 years ago gathered to walk around their hometown, getting fast food and laughing with their friends. two friends shared blankets before people lived in houses. a mother ran a fine comb through her child’s hair and told it to stop squirming sometime in the 1000s. there are covered up sewing mistakes in couture dresses from the 1800s, some poor roman burnt their food so well past recognition that they just buried the entire pot. there are broken dishes hidden in gardens of people no one even remembers anymore
children eleven thousand years ago enjoyed jumping around in puddles made from the footprints of a giant sloth. children loved muddy puddles so long ago there were still megafauna alive
There’s a record of an emperor of Japan in the 9th century talking about his cat - how pretty it is, and how it stalks birds and curls up in a circle and meows mournfully for company and escaped its collar. All completely normal ordinary cat things. And then it ends with him saying “it is superior to all other cats”. I am delighted to be united across 1200 years with this fellow cat owner with exactly the same feelings about his cat that I have about mine.
I hate how bot comments on ao3 are making more and more writers disable their comments and lock their works so that only people with registered accounts can access their works (because while some of these bots are from registered accounts and therefore locking your fics won’t guarantee that you will be safe from them, a lot of them are commenting as guest users so locking fics helps a little), because there are so many genuine readers who read and comment on fics without having their own registered accounts.
these bots are not only annoying and harmful (if you fell for their lies and gave them money, an access to your personal informations), they’re also keeping artists and art from genuine audiences and destroying the community artists built with their audiences.
this is a post to say fuck you every bot out there.
WITH EVERY REBLOG THIS POST GETS, A BOT WILL DIE
also here’s how to spot and deal with bot comments
The Amnesty International report that JK Rowling is trying to censor through legal threats.

“Because the truth is, tech doesn’t have an image problem. It doesn’t have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What’s wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn’t successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What’s wrong is that he’s trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that’s designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn’t that you haven’t told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.”

Everyone should be aware of nitter.net
for any address to twitter you can replace the “x.com” with “nitter.net” and you will be able to browse as if you have an account. Lifesaver.
Similarly, imginn.com works for most Instagram addresses. I still haven’t found one for Facebook.

Meanwhile to me, a cis-seeming NINETEEN YEAR OLD.
"Hey so, your hormone issues will make you too manly and we want you to be comfy and feminine and happy with being GIRLY ENOUGH, (it'smandatoryforyoubcwedecideditisshushdon'tworryaboutthat) so here have some hormone pills. *throwing packets* Lifetime supply. Just because you need it. Gotta make sure you don't ever feel the slightest gender dysphoria!!"
HOW IS THAT FAIR OR JUST?? You'll toss the stuff at ME but my SISTERS AND SIBLINGS can't have it because *checks notes*
You don't like who they are. YOU BASTARDS.
This is the thing! Right here!
So many cis people who's imaginations seemingly can't encapsulate the horror of a trans kid experiencing gender dysphoria as they're forced to go through the wrong puberty suddenly find it comprehensible when the focus is a cis kid.
Puberty blockers were originally used to address precocious puberty, especially the distress and disruption it causes for the child. A cis girl has her first period at age 7, it's easy to understand why she won't feel ready for that, and that she'll feel alienated and out of step with her peers who are still years away from starting puberty.
The idea of taking puberty blockers until she feels ready, until it won't be a distressing experience. That makes sense to cis people.
But using the same medication to manage distress for a trans kid who doesn't feel ready for puberty, so they can have a few more years to figure things out... that's incomprehensible apparently. *
Similarly, a teenage cis girl with a hormone imbalance starts growing a beard and having her voice start breaking, the idea of putting her on androgen blockers is treated as obvious. The psychological distress of girl developing 'male' secondary sex characteristics is entirely understood in that case... THATS GENDER DYSPHORIA. But when it's in a trans kid it's treated as this dangerous idea.
The mental gymnastics involved kill trans kids and leave the survivors spending the rest of our lives picking up the pieces and trying to create some kind of life we can tolerate enough to live... or we don't.
HOw did I even?
Opened an older set up of my Sims games (I have multiple) and it was great and fun and I didn't have to set up a new game to play which was lovely but...
I can't place any Maxis items? Mod items work fine but whenever I click a Maxis thing in the catalog, the description will show up but if I move over to place it there is nothing, it's like I've not selected the item at all?
Is something in this setup broken, is that why I stopped playing it ages ago? Did I download something that would prevent me from using Maxis stuff? What? Why would I have done that? What even does that?
I GOT A FUCKING RAISE THE POTATO WORKED WTF
This potato works. Every. Fucking. Time.
Reblogging because it’s a damn potato and I want to encourage people to assume potatoes are magical.
w-what if potato is actually lucky
i know there’s more than this out there but it really is incredible that people will look at a fictional character someone else wrote and collectively say “I will write you a hundred happy endings.”
Not the Dash
How to make Tumblr NOT infinite scroll on blogs? Just give me pages! I like pages.
I found a Firefox plugin that did it and it was very :D but then it turned out that it stopped the scrolling on most blogs but also broke the dashboard completely which was very D:

"ai is making it so everyone can make art" Everyone can make art dipshit it came free with your fucking humanity
Oh gee, you're right! Why didn't the people who can't even move their arms think of just making a painting? /s
And before anyone starts spouting some "art is more than just painting" spiel, you don't know what kind of art someone might need to make in order to express their vision. An artist may have a very specific idea in mind to create the perfect piece of graphic art, and using music, performance, etc. just won't cut it for them. AI is a tool that can help the disabled in so many ways. Not even just with art. Get off your high horse and accept that disabled people have different needs and, guess what, ABILITIES than you do. Fuck you, asshole.
you are a tar pit.
and you are ableist.
you're fighting against a tool that makes art more accessible, and actively dismissing the notion that it could even possibly be doing that. this IS ableist. YOU are the tar pit in this situation.
L+Ratio+It doesn't+i slept w your mom
Hi I’m disabled I’m crippled I have a disorder that makes my fingers suddenly dislocate while I’m holding my pencil I have a spinal issue that makes it hard for me to bend over a desk half of the time I have leg issues that make it difficult for me to get around etc etc etc. I also have a bunch of other issues I don’t want to tell you about.
I’m also in art college. And even if I wasn’t, I’ve been doing art for almost a decade now. I’ve been disabled the whole bloody time.
AI, isn’t art.
There are many disabled artists and we have adapted our own ways of dealing with how we create. Fuck you, we have been doing this forever.
Vincent Van Gogh had temporal lobe epilepsy; Henri Matisse became a wheelchair user after surgery for cancer; Michelangelo had osteoarthritis, limiting mobility and causing pain in his hands and feet.
Paul Smith had a severe case of cerebral palsy and created art using typewriters.
Peter Longstaff has no arms due to Thalidomide, and paints with his feet.
Frida Kahlo not only had polio that disabled her as a child, but of course as we all know was injured in a bus accident at the age of 18, which caused her lifelong pain and medical problems.
Fuck, you want a personal annecdote? I knew a girl (we have lost touch since) who was paralysed from the neck down and she painted with her mouth and there are other artists who do so too! And with eye tracking technology I’m sure disabled artists will be getting more and more tools as the years pass. But we do NOT condone AI art. All that does is put us, real disabled artists, who exist and need support, out of jobs and commissions.
Fuck you.
hi, another disabled person here for more personal anecdotes! here is an art piece i made entirely with my non dominant hand 1 week before my most recent shoulder surgery on that same arm. i also wear splint rings to keep my fingers from dislocating while painting (or playing bass guitar cause i do that too). i make most of my income off hand painted art despite having hand tremors, frequent wrist dislocations/subluxations, and migraines.
my friend and her wife also make their incomes off wig making, leatherwork, and digital collage prints. both have chronic pain as well.
our lines arent perfect because we have shaky hands but thats ok, make it a feature not a flaw in your art. fuck AI.
Anyone who thinks physically disabled people need to use art stealing AI to make our own art is the ableist, actually.
Mine isn't as drastic (yet) but I've been having to wear wrist braces and finger splints since childhood off and on because using my hands in a repetitive motions causes them to be in pretty excruciating pain.
What is my art medium of choice? Knitting. You know, that thing where you have to do a repetitive motion over and over again. I hold my needles a bit strange, I knit through the pain, I sometimes have to give up working on it for weeks at a time. But I will not stop because it's what makes my heart sing.
Disabled artists don't need your pity, we've been getting by, doing what makes us happy despite the pain and hardships for thousands of years, probably longer, I bet there were neolithic disabled artists.
No actual real artist wants or uses AI, including disabled artists. AI is for losers who are scared of the extremely important phase in art where you suck and want to skip it by stealing and not even in a cool "I'm emulating your style because I wanna learn from it" way.
Go suck at art for a couple years like the rest of us and stop talking over disabled artists.
And also if you just really really really really cannot create your vision and need someone else to do it for you. Then just hire a goddamn artist. Save up your money if you need it so badly that you're willing to enable thieves that care as little about art as they do about the real people who make it.
I'm disabled, I'm a writer, and I will absolutely fistfight anyone trying to say they shouldn't have to put in the twenty years of fucking EFFORT that I HAVE EXPENDED in BEING A GODDAMN WRITER behind a goddamn denny's at three AM
Chuck Close (1940-2021) was a photorealism artist who had dyslexia and prosopagnosia (face blindness). He utilized the grid method of breaking down images into smaller sections in order to help him visually process the details of his subjects.
'Big Self Portrait', (1967-68)
In 1988, Close experienced a spinal stroke that affected the use of his hands, and he adapted by strapping a brush to a wrist brace.
‘Self Portrait’ (1997)
Here is an interview with Chuck Close from 2011 about the relationship between his art and his disabilities.

AI doesn't make art. Period.
It can only make images.
From mostly stolen work.
Modern Romance - Kevin Sloan
This work is modeled on the Gyrfalcon plate from John James Audubon’s Birds of America!
I don’t add this to discredit the artist, only to point out the reference. Audubon himself referenced the work of multiple contemporary artists when he illustrated BoA, though he claimed he painted them all from life, meaning from dead birds he had in his possession.
This is one of my favorite poems by Claudia Emerson. The line “There will always be such things I regret knowing” always gets me.
i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: what we want is for these things to be run like a HOUSEHOLD… a home. A household still has a budget and an income and resources to manage; all the moving parts are the same but the focus is different.
a business will let every person in it die a terrible death if it makes the business profit. A household will spend it’s last dollar to keep the people in it safe and healthy.
A household will use money as a resource to add value to the lives of the people in the household. A business will use people as a resource to add monetary value to the business
We don’t want a government run like a business, we want a country run like a household. Because we live here.
I don't want to ask AI a question. I don't want AI to write my sentences for me, at all ever. I don't want AI search bars to be the default and I don't want them to be in such a way that I can't opt out. I don't want this kind of AI in my life and there is no such thing as AI art, there is only theft of art from human artists by AI scrappers. I don't want any of this, I hate it. Maybe in a world that isn't driven by tech bro capitalism we can see machines doing all the dangerous inane things so humans can be free to pursue life and creativity. But that's not what's happening right now and I hate it.
I know "60s housewives who invented slash fanfiction" has taken on a life of its own as a phrase, but Kirk/Spock didn't really exist until the 70s and THOSE WOMEN HAD JOBS. They were teachers and librarians and bookkeepers and scientists and they damn well spent their own money going to conventions, printing zines, buying fanart and making fandom happen. Put some respect on their names.
Salute to our troops (70s careerwomen who put their hard-earned dollars into homemade gay erotica)
It was women with secretarial jobs doing a lot of the heavy lifting, if memory serves correctly.
They had training in type setting, could churn things out quickly, knew how to organise mailing lists, and had easy access to Expensive High Tech like photocopiers.
Boss make a dollar, she makes a dime. That's why she's printing Kirk X Spock zines on company time.
