alrighty so. I already have two posts where I shared my KH fic series, but I wanted to make a new, more polished one, so here we are.
the strength of our hearts
Sometimes, all it takes to cut through the darkness is a connection.
A rewrite of the Kingdom Hearts series after KH2.
general fic info:
main playlist (yes I know it's insanely long at the moment, I'm going to condense it into a much shorter playlist sometime soon so it works better for the entire series.)
the word "rewrite" implies that I dislike KH as it is, which is very much not true. I just had a cool idea and wanted to rewrite the entire series to tell a new version of the story with my idea in mind.
there will be a total of 3 main fics in the series, with maybe one or two shorter ones to fill in the gaps. the first two main fics are already posted and I'm working on them at the same time to maintain continuity, as they are parallel stories and will eventually converge at the end of the first fic. these fics cover the entire story from the end of KH2 to just before the beginning of KH3, while the third fic will focus on KH3 and ReMind.
this story is heavily Soriku & Destiny Trio focused. not to say that the other characters and relationships aren't important, it's just that Sora, Riku, and Kairi are the heart of my story.
Soriku is a veeeeery slow burn in this series. but! it's for a good reason! I'm not going to leave you all hanging when it comes to their relationship and how it develops. it's going to be good, trust me!!
Kairi is aromantic. this is very important for her side of the story. of course, it's not all of who she is. but it affects every part of her life, and her being in the closet makes that much more difficult... and that's exactly what I want to explore in this series. :)
if I list a relationship in the tags, it will be explored in the fic. I won't tag relationships that aren't important to anyone's characterization or development at some point in the story. if I don't tag a major trio or friendship or something, that relationship is still present, it's just not given as much attention as the tagged relationships.
most of the KH3 arc of the story is inspired by Sleeping Realm theory and the posts I've made about that theory. many of the changes I've made for my fic serve the purpose of supporting the topics and themes the Sleeping Realm theory presents. thus, my series puts a lot of emphasis on love (in all of its forms), sacrifice, and the importance of memories.
the strongest theme in my story is that of finding yourself through connection. this is the core of every single character arc in the entire series. I didn't plan for this btw, it just sorta happened. but I really like this direction for KH's story, so it stuck. :)
there are content warnings in the chapter notes & on this post, but the series isn't nearly as upsetting as it sounds. the warnings are only there to tell you what to expect. I promise it isn't too bad, there's just a lot of heavy stuff in the subtext.
when KH4 releases, I'm going to continue this series with a fourth main fic. but I want to finish writing what I have planned so far before I start working on post-ReMind stuff.

Castle Oblivion is a character for plot reasons (it wanted to be a character and. well. here we are)
Xehanort doesn't exist until I say so
Xion and Repliku are trans girls. Xion is already out of the closet by the time she returns in this fic (obviously), but Repliku has a long way to go before her egg gets cracked. but dw, it'll happen in this fic.
Naminé is very autistic coded in this fic. I projected too hard, my bad
Castle Oblivion has a lot of lore. most of it is my explanation for the castle's weirdness. some of it I literally just made up because I thought it was interesting & that the plot would benefit from it. (more on this in another post. the lore is not really focused on in my story so I have to yap about it on here instead.)

The dark corridor closed too soon, and Kairi finds herself separated from her best friends all over again. But she's not going to wait another year for them to come home. There's no room for fear or doubt; Sora and Riku are out there somewhere, and Kairi won't rest until the three of them are together again.

this is all I've got for now! I'm really excited about this fic series and I wanted to share it in a way that was less vague and hopefully easier to read. kinda pissing me off how many ppl are saying “jax is dead” or “jax is the only one who didn’t get a happy ending” and other things like that so
Re Jax maybe killing her mom: if she was able to get a job (and in the US POSTAL SERVICE of all things) then when they ran her background check obviously they didnt find any outstanding warrants for her! which means! obv her mother survived and was just a pos who never looked for her kid
Re jax being dead: while abstraction is a metaphor for suicide THEY ARE NOT ACTUALLY DEAD! and this was made Especially clear in ep 9! jax was abstracted for a WHILE before pomni went inside her head! she’s seen in her abstracted form multiple times over the end of the episode, fully alive and more importantly CALM
Re jax being the only one to not see her irl self: pomni went inside her head once, and only had to be pulled back out once jax started freaking out, who is to say pomni cant go inside her again and just TELL her about it????
And finally, re jax being the only one without a happy ending: while yes she is abstracted, she is also AT PEACE! thats what the song as pomni is pulled out means! she has explicitly accepted herself!! and the abstractions are all peacefully swimming around together, so she’s even been reunited with kaufmo and ribbit!! they’re all together again!!! is that not a happy ending to you? at peace and together with the people you had mistakenly pushed away?
Feel like seeing the finale really transformed me into a full on funnybunnydoll main. Like it used to be just a fun compromise trio ship kind of thing and now any time I see any of the constituent pairings it feels like there's something missing.

i'm not here to write a whole meta post, but: i've seen so, so many complaints about how "badly paced" jax's abstraction was, and how it just sort of came out of nowhere, and how would pomni not know and chase her down-
and all i can think is, have any of the people writing these comments never gotten a discord message the day after? has nobody gotten a call at 9 am letting them know? has no one else been the first person called after the body was found?
jax's abstraction was more impactful to me than ninety percent of media involving that sort of thing, because it was an experience i've lived through several times now. and maybe it's a good thing that more people find that unrelatable or unrealistic.
