alrighty so. I already have two posts where I shared my KH fic series, but I wanted to make a new, more polished one, so here we are.
the strength of our hearts
Sometimes, all it takes to cut through the darkness is a connection.
A rewrite of the Kingdom Hearts series after KH2.
general fic info:
main playlist (yes I know it's insanely long at the moment, I'm going to condense it into a much shorter playlist sometime soon so it works better for the entire series.)
the word "rewrite" implies that I dislike KH as it is, which is very much not true. I just had a cool idea and wanted to rewrite the entire series to tell a new version of the story with my idea in mind.
there will be a total of 3 main fics in the series, with maybe one or two shorter ones to fill in the gaps. the first two main fics are already posted and I'm working on them at the same time to maintain continuity, as they are parallel stories and will eventually converge at the end of the first fic. these fics cover the entire story from the end of KH2 to just before the beginning of KH3, while the third fic will focus on KH3 and ReMind.
this story is heavily Soriku & Destiny Trio focused. not to say that the other characters and relationships aren't important, it's just that Sora, Riku, and Kairi are the heart of my story.
Soriku is a veeeeery slow burn in this series. but! it's for a good reason! I'm not going to leave you all hanging when it comes to their relationship and how it develops. it's going to be good, trust me!!
Kairi is aromantic. this is very important for her side of the story. of course, it's not all of who she is. but it affects every part of her life, and her being in the closet makes that much more difficult... and that's exactly what I want to explore in this series. :)
if I list a relationship in the tags, it will be explored in the fic. I won't tag relationships that aren't important to anyone's characterization or development at some point in the story. if I don't tag a major trio or friendship or something, that relationship is still present, it's just not given as much attention as the tagged relationships.
most of the KH3 arc of the story is inspired by Sleeping Realm theory and the posts I've made about that theory. many of the changes I've made for my fic serve the purpose of supporting the topics and themes the Sleeping Realm theory presents. thus, my series puts a lot of emphasis on love (in all of its forms), sacrifice, and the importance of memories.
the strongest theme in my story is that of finding yourself through connection. this is the core of every single character arc in the entire series. I didn't plan for this btw, it just sorta happened. but I really like this direction for KH's story, so it stuck. :)
there are content warnings in the chapter notes & on this post, but the series isn't nearly as upsetting as it sounds. the warnings are only there to tell you what to expect. I promise it isn't too bad, there's just a lot of heavy stuff in the subtext.
when KH4 releases, I'm going to continue this series with a fourth main fic. but I want to finish writing what I have planned so far before I start working on post-ReMind stuff.

the plot of Dream Drop Distance happens in this fic but the Mark of Mastery exam & all of the Xehanort shenanigans are absent. I can't say anything else rn sadly because I'd be spoiling my favorite chapters in the fic, and I really want those to be a surprise...
Castle Oblivion is a character for plot reasons (it wanted to be a character and. well. here we are)
Xehanort doesn't exist until I say so
Xion and Repliku are trans girls. Xion is already out of the closet by the time she returns in this fic (obviously), but Repliku has a long way to go before her egg gets cracked. but dw, it'll happen in this fic.
Castle Oblivion has a lot of lore. most of it is my explanation for the castle's weirdness. some of it I literally just made up because I thought it was interesting & that the plot would benefit from it. (more on this in another post. the lore is not really focused on in my story so I have to yap about it on here instead.)
the core idea for this fic was heavily inspired by Re:Coded. I'm sure you can see how lol.
The dark corridor closed too soon, and Kairi finds herself separated from her best friends all over again. But she's not going to wait another year for them to come home. There's no room for fear or doubt; Sora and Riku are out there somewhere, and Kairi won't rest until the three of them are together again.
Post-KH2 canon divergence fic; in which the door of light doesn't take Sora and Riku to Destiny Islands, and Kairi is left to pick up the pieces on her own.

so my friend made it to just before the last Struggle fight of day 4, here's what they had to say
1: Roxas is awesome, they really want to see more of him (they were delighted to hear that we do, but I didn't tell them what will happen next with him. my poor friend is NOT ready for 358/2 Days, let alone the end of Roxas's summer vacation...)
2: Kairi's new outfit in the opening movie was so cute on her, but also "wtf is up with the zippers" (lol)
3: "wait so do we get to play as Kairi in this game??? :o" "sorry but no, not until KH3." "awww... :("
4: according to my friend, Axel is the coolest character in the entire series (also when he showed up with his hood up during the Struggle tournament the first thing my friend said was "hey wait, I recognize that waist π€¨" and I think I hurt something laughing)
5: "where tf did Sora and Riku go, can they come back please" (yeah me too bestie π)
7: their running theory about Data Twilight Town is that Roxas's relationships with some of the characters are meant to parallel Sora and Riku's relationship back on Destiny Islands. funnily enough this is exactly what I was thinking back when I played KH2 for the first time! I was wrong about the town being a manifestation of Sora's mind, but now I think I was onto something with the parallel theory.
8: "give me your balls" < them throughout the Struggle tournament
so yeah, they've been having a great time with the game so far. next time we hang out they'll probably be back to playing as Sora, I'll update y'all when that happens.
also, them starting KH2 is really motivating me to finish my platonic Rikai oneshot so they can read it after they finish the game. they crave Kairi content just as much as I do, I must get my fic done so we can autism out about them together lol
I think the guys who say "Not everything has to be romantic, can't two guys just be normal friends." are probably the same guys who say that people of the opposite sex cant be friends and that those friendships always turn romantic and/or sexual. Anyways, ship whatever the fuck you want, they're not real people so it doesnt fucking matter. You want it to be romantic then make it romantic, you want it to be platonic then make it platonic, just dont tell other people what to do with their headcannons and shipping stuff, people need to stop fucking gatekeeping fun.

I feel like people confuse liking an abusive character for defending them. which I can understand because I have absolutely been guilty of this in the past! but now that I'm the one who likes an abusive character, I find myself very frustrated with the confusion.
I like Jax. I think she is an interesting character because of how fucked up she is and what she could've been if she had let herself be vulnerable and grow. that doesn't mean I would defend an irl Jax. I absolutely fucking would not. I'm honestly very much like Gangle irl, I would be miserable around anyone like Jax. so like, I know Jax is abusive. I agree that she was a piece of shit, and I still like her as a character.
that doesn't mean I think abuse is okay. this is fiction, I can like whatever the hell I want. tbh if you somehow think fiction shouldn't be the place where people explore and enjoy morally questionable things, you need to think about what that means for society. if we can't explore our darker thoughts and impulses in a place that's designated for people to do that safely, where else do you think people will start to explore those things? do you really want people to just bottle things up until they become the monsters you admonish people for writing about? because I certainly don't.
if you want people to understand abuse and recognize it for what it is, being abusive to people who like abusive characters is not going to accomplish that. being hostile won't fix anything. keep having honest conversations about abuse, but don't bully or harass people for enjoying, relating to, or otherwise engaging with abusive characters.
also, ffs, just because I spend time defending Jax as a character doesn't mean I would defend Jax as a person. I absolutely do not think she is anything other than abusive towards others. but some of you are literally making shit up to be mad about, and I'm tired of it. me saying "hey this didn't happen, can we maybe hate on this character for things they actually did" is NOT the same as saying "nothing this character did has ever been abusive actually, you're just lying". also, implying that someone is dangerous or predatory because they like FICTION that is NOT REALITY is absolutely insane, and I can't believe this is something that has happened more than once in this fandom.
anyways. for obvious reasons, I'm taking a long break from the TADC fandom. the only part of it I will be engaging with is on AO3. at least there, people are chill about these things. I can read about Jax going to therapy in peace over in fanfiction land. Gooseworx is a saint for continuing to interact with the fans after everything. we don't deserve her.
