I finally finished playing Spirit Tracks, and it was incredible. love this game. 10/10

now I can say that I've finished playing all of my favorite Zelda games in the series, which includes Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, A Link Between Worlds, Spirit Tracks, Skyward Sword, BoTW, and ToTK. I'm very happy about this. it took me a decade to get through all of them but hey, I had a blast doing it.

tbh the only thing I have to say about Spirit Tracks is that I really, really want a remake now. it's a great game and I actually had fun with the DS stylus control scheme, but it was really frustrating at points and not every puzzle was intuitive to figure out. I disagree with 90% of the major complaints people have about this game, like the whole "why can't we just go anywhere instead of being limited to the tracks" thing, because those complaints sound like people just don't want to play a train game. go play something else, the tracks are literally the entire point of the game. otherwise I'm kinda just like... if you don't like the fact that this game uses DS specific mechanics, then don't play the original game. simple as that.

but my feelings on this are basically just that I want a remake so more people can play the game and experience the story. like with Skyward Sword, where the HD version fixed a lot of the janky controls and even lets you opt out of the motion controls completely. which is something I personally will never do for most of the game, but I understand why people need that option. if Spirit Tracks had an HD release on the Switch or something that changed the stylus controls to button controls, I'd be cool with that because it would mean having an easier time when I replay the game. that, and people will actually want to play it if the controls are changed to something less frustrating.

also, I just really want everyone to see sassy Zelda. Ghost Zelda is the best companion in the entire series, I can't believe people don't talk about her more. no, I will not accept counterarguments to that statement. yes, she's even better than Fi and Midna in my eyes. they're awesome too, it's just that Zelda is even more awesome than them. this is the only game in the entire series where Zelda is not just there for the entire story, but also actively working with Link through gameplay, and that's genuinely so cool. people always talk about Zelda never being the companion but NO ONE EVER MENTIONS THE ONE TIME SHE WAS. so yeah, I need people to play this game and appreciate how awesome they made my girl. Ghost Zelda supremacy forever.

I was so pissed off by friends and family criticizing my soap choice that, for half a year, I did an experiment where I washed one hand with Palmolive and one with handsoap, to prove that it didn't make your skin any rougher. and do you know what the result is? it does make your skin rougher. and now I'm even more pissed off.

I love this. This is the beauty of the honest scientific process. You had an idea, you tested it and you still reported the results even though the results disproved your idea.

It's ok to be mad at it, you're an honest scientist.

How do you deal with writers block? I've been struggling to get anything down for a few months now.

I have a daily wordcount that I make myself hit. right now, it's 2k a day, but when I have less of a workload I find 1k more realistic and manageable.

as for the struggling: first, you have to let yourself write like crap. is the sentence bad? are you talking all stupid? who cares, it's better than nothing, and now you have something you can come back to once your first draft is complete. that last bit is important. don't beautify your writing until you have something roughly complete, otherwise you'll get stuck tweaking the same three sentences for a year.

and secondly: you might be struggling because something about what you think you need to write isn't flowing. maybe you're not interested enough, make you don't know enough, maybe it isn't working, whatever. so instead, find something you do want to write about, and fill that daily word count. this might mean writing the climax of your story before the beginning, or writing several long descriptions of the antagonist's living quarters instead of anything that moves the plot along. that's great! even if you eventually have to throw it out because it doesn't fit anywhere, it's still great! and the more you write, the stronger your muscle memory will get, and the easier it will be.

I also abuse caffeine, but you shouldn't do that part.
