Cats Don't Dance from the 1900s

Cats Don’t Dance fanart that I drew in the last century, circa 1997-1999 when I was about 13-15 years old. Helioscope, my comic book studio, has started up a monthly movie night with a focus on sharing films that may not have been widely seen by our other studio members. Last night was my turn to host so not only did I bring in my DVD that I’ve had for thirty years (older than a number of our members) but I also dug up these ancient rungs on the ladder of my foundational artistic development.

As I went through the mental hospital program, Matt and I processed it very differently. He very much did not like the idea that there was something "wrong" with me and for me to make jokes about being "crazy" was really upsetting for him. So, we reached a compromise.

I tend to see my experiences as if I'm the Main Character, especially when I'm off doing something like being a first-time patient at a mental clinic, but it turns out my loved ones are also experiencing this as well, even if they're on the outside.

Most of my fellow patients in the mental program were on a leave of absence from work, but I was a self-employed cartoonist so I would bus from the hospital at the end of the day to work at my studio late into the night.
