The Thing Inside My Brain:
it is a reality that the vast majority of sex trafficking in the U.S. (and around the world, actually) occurs within the auspices and structures of the U.S. military. people do not want to talk about this or think about this or even acknowledge that evidence for this is hardly some kooky vague manifestos. the rape and sexual violence committed by U.S. military members in bases domestically and all around the world are absolutely notorious. did you all know that during World War II the U.S. military ran official brothels "staffed" by a majority of women who did not in any way consent? they forced women into sex slavery, that is correct. in our "most moral" war, so i hear. your "greatest generation." your patriotic grandpa who is just so amazing, so kind to you, he never could have participated in something like this. and yet. it is a fact (and there is evidence from so so many different sources) that imperial soldiers are, as a group, rapists. no matter what country they come from, no matter the conflict or how it is framed (nor even, actually, their gender or race. does anyone remember ilse koch or lyndie england?) if you are a feminist say, older than gen z, you might remember how catherine mackinnon--harvard professor and prosecutor of the international criminal court--claimed in 2014 that the IDF doesn't rape Palestinian women? do you think that was true? do you think it is true now?
