nothinggg feels better than seeing how many kilometers you hiked and how much longer it is than the last time you went. Nothingggg feels better than setting a goal of wanting to see a critter and you actually see them!!!
Jesus Christ I'm so excited for hiking on Monday. I'm so happyyyyyyy
Eastern Sierra Hiking
I recently had opportunity to spend a few days hiking in the environs of the magnificent John Muir wilderness of the Eastern Sierra, on the official end of Spring / start of Summer transition.
Here, I hiked up thru a location just outside of Bishop California, with my end destination being a beautiful alpine lake nestled amongst the dramatic granite cliffs and peaks in which it is cradled. The whole hike is (officially) only about 7 miles, but with exploring, filming and photography, I hiked closer to about 9 miles.
The only down side of this hike was a creek crossing that was a little deeper and a little more slick than I was expecting. As such I slipped and dinged up my leg just a bit. It wasn't enough to end or significantly impact my trip, but it did sorta suck a bit.
Even still, it was a glorious morning/early afternoon for a warm up hike. The picturesque jagged peaks of the Eastern Sierra make for an awe inspiring environment thru which to wander.
Let's go exploring.

If you are hiking behind me in rocky terrain you will periodically here a *thunk* and that is nothing to worry about it's just me bashing the toe of my boot on a rock and that is why I don't buy fabric hiking boots/shoes and only get the ones that are made completely of leather. Follow for more hiking tips.

The problem with restocking my candy "for hiking" stash is that I know where it is and there's no one to stop me from eating it. Which is fine there's nothing wrong with eating candy when not hiking but then I go to pack my backpack and there's no candy left.
📍Southwest VA, USA
An 8.5 mile trek
Started out dark, rainy, and foggy. Funny how the forecast called for it to be sunny all day 😄
We saw so many of these newts along the way! iNaturalist seems to think they're red spotted newts. Also saw Towhees and Red Eyed Vireos but they were too quick for me to get a good picture.
It was pretty rough going, wet and steep uphill most of the way. Lots of peanut M&Ms were had.
We were rewarded with some wonderful views when we reached a cave.
A little further and some stunning views at a scenic overlook.
The way back was fortunately much easier. Brèagha had a great time getting as wet and dirty as possible. Everyone will sleep well tonight.
